This is my Dad!

This is my Dad. See the resemblance? I've been told all my life that I look like him. I probably act like him some times too. Although, I catch myself saying things and I sound like I've been possessed by my mother. He's not feeling so great and I'm worried about him. I love him and don't get to see him nearly as often as I'd like.

I remember him taking me fishing, umping at my little league baseball games, fixing my fence, giving lots of hugs, cooking bbq porkchops, making knives, making me a paddle, hugging my mom, preaching from the pulpit, marrying Blaine and me, and driving the bus to church camp.

There are still more memories to be made. We're not done!

Hawaii

This is a flower in Hawaii. I love Hawaii. Everything seems cleaner, brighter, and prettier there. It smells better, the bums don't seem as scary, and you see something beautiful everyday. Together we've been four times and Blaine went alone four times before we got married.

The bad things about Hawaii are it takes forever to get there from here, stuff is expensive, and tourists are EVERYWHERE!

I still wanna go back! I wanna visit all the islands and see everything there is to see. I'd like to rent an apartment and stay there for the summer. We'd have to have groceries shipped to us or live on pineapple the whole time!

Blaine and I have been to Hawaii and Las Vegas several times. We know we like it. We know where stuff is located and we can generally get around without renting a car. The more we go the fewer pictures I take, but I am no less awed than the very first time I visited!

You Make Me Feel Like Dancing!

Growing up the daughter of a Southern Baptist Minister was not a childhood filled with dancing. It was filled with lots of laughter and fun, just not a lot of dancing.

As an adult, I LOVE TO DANCE. I just wish I were more graceful, had more rhythm, and could dance like the people on "Dancing with the Stars." I love this show. Poor Blaine is tortured by this show. Tonight was particularly entertaining. Florence Henderson scared me just a wee bit and Jennifer Grey brought out the envy in me, she is such a graceful dancer. I may have watched Dirty Dancing a few (dozen) times.

While Blaine is being tortured he is sometimes entertained, he just won't admit it. One of the funniest nights of my life was when he did his own personal interpretation of a Paso Doble. He let me video him and for the honor of posting it online I had to give up the remote for a whole month. So here's the video :-D

Dreaming and Hoping and Wishing

One big thing that Blaine and I have in common is our love of travel. Today we went to Davis-Kidd and bought this book (I had a coupon for 20% off!) I love the idea of getting a rail pass and just riding all over Britain and Europe. Just going wherever strikes our fancy. Maybe someday we'll win the lottery and be able to do this!

I've been to Europe, even saw HRH Queen Elizabeth! Love, love, loved it! Being on a tour bus was always a bit rushed. I was always trying to remember what day it was and which country I was in. I still keep in touch with friends I made on that trip!

I know we're conceited Americans, but being in a country where nothing is in English is a bit daunting! I've had a couple of years of high school Spanish and can reason out a lot of signs. Dealing with the German language blew my mind. I always tried to make an attempt to speak their language first and then they were usually nice enough to tell me they spoke English. Personally, I think they did it in self-defense. They didn't want to hear me butcher their language with a hillbilly accent any longer than necessary!

Wow and Wow!

The past couple of days have been super BUSY! Thursday night after stuffing ourselves silly on "fajitas for two" at Margaritas we came home and cleaned the house in preparation for Friday night's party.

My friend at work has a sister that does "fun" parties and I said I'd host a party for her. Tammy told me to over invite, since most people don't come. I have no idea how many people I invited, but counting me and Tammy there were 25 women in my house. I had Margaritas, Pina Coladas, sweet tea, lemonade, Coke, Sprite, beer, and hard lemonade. We ate cocktail sausages in bbq and grape jam, sliders, lil chicken sandwiches, tortilla chips, spinach dip, cheese dip, french onion dip, deli spirals, whole kosher dill pickles, lil cheese cake squares, Bavarian cream braid bread, almonds, salsa, peppermints, and Halloween candy! I AM TIRED! There wasn't a lot a food left and I hope everybody had plenty to eat and drink. It was a rowdy and raunchy fun time and I'm glad that everybody came. I'd mention their names, but they may want to stay anonymous. If you are interested in booking a similar show, shoot me an email and I'll get you Tammy's info!

Today it is supposed to be 91 degrees! I'm staying inside and bonding with the air conditioner!

Happy Birthday to Me!

When I was in Elementary School, my mom made cupcakes almost every year for my birthday. She made enough for every kid in my grade. Granted there were rarely more than 50 kids in the entire grade, that's still a lot of cupcakes. I loved being able to give everybody one and never wanted to leave anybody out. Okay, so there might have been a couple of kids that were mean to me. But I still gave them one and didn't even spit on them.

Now that I'm older and I've actually made cupcakes, I appreciate much more what my mother did for me. In addition to the cupcakes, I also got a birthday cake. She always made what I wanted and they were wonderful! I had a particularly traumatic 5th birthday cake. She put a doll on it and when I was playing with the doll I discovered that the hair was only coming out from the middle and behind the ears. The rest of the head was bald. For some reason, this freaked me out and I cried uncontrollably. There was probably a spanking after that, but I still remember that doll!

I miss my mom. She's been gone for almost nine years now. But she made every birthday special.

The End of another Decade

Tomorrow I will be 41. I still don't feel like a grown up. I still like to be silly, wear funny hats, pull pranks, and sit and laugh until I cry. I still think burps and passing gas are worth a giggle. I am the last person you want to talk to if you are needing words of advice and sympathy. I just want to tell you a joke and make you smile. I truly believe laughter is the best medicine!

When I'm sad, feeling down, or upset the last thing I want somebody to do is pretend to be my therapist. I just need to you to be on my side or tell me that I'm wrong. Otherwise, just hug me, tell me a joke, and hand me a tissue. I ALWAYS cry. When I'm sad, mad, happy, glad, or just watching tv I will burst into tears. Don't be surprised, just take it in stride. If you make fun of me I will call you a name!

I realize that realistically my life is probably half (or more) over. There is still much I'd like to do.
Here is my bucket list:
*visit all 50 states
*go to Italy
*weigh under 200 pounds
*go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
*go to NYC (Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building are a must!)
* see Blaine retire

There are quite a few little things, like go to the Pink Palace, but I'm not putting them on the list!

What's on your bucket list?

Shrimp & Grits

I know this picture isn't of Shrimp and Grits, but I didn't take a picture. This is a picture of some yummy Gus's Fried Chicken. If you live in the Memphis area, have ever visited, or plan on visiting here, it is a must that you eat at Gus's! They have some awesome spicy fried chicken! It is reasonably priced and isn't cooked until you order it. Gus's has been featured several times on The Food Network.

On to shrimp and grits. Today we ate lunch at Bahama Breeze. Aunt Olivia gave me a $10 off coupon, so off we went! One of the specials for today was Shrimp and Cheese Grits. OH MY HEAVENS there was none left to bring home. Blaine decided he liked my lunch better and so we both ate it (plenty to share) and got a to-go box for his jerk chicken and pasta. The cheese grits were definitely a tummy filler! If you haven't tried this dish, I heartily recommend it!

This is my Aunt Olivia. She is one of my most favorite people in the world. I was so happy when she and Uncle Clyde moved back to the Memphis area. I don't go see her as often as I should but when we go, it's always a good visit. Since my mom and granny have gone on to be with Jesus, she's the mother figure in my life. I blame her for my love of Harlequin romance novels, she was my dealer, she'd bring me books by the Wal*Mart bag fulls. She also grows me little green hot peppers. She always has hugs and kisses for everyone. I always feel loved around her.

She's a strong woman. My uncle suffers from dementia. It is a debilitating disease for both the person who has it and those in the family. I hope to be as strong as she is someday!

4 years 51 weeks ago....

Four years and 51 weeks ago I had tickets to see the Black Crowes. My friend, that was gonna go with me, backed out. I called everyone I could think of and asked if they'd like to go. Everybody had plans. I didn't know what to do, I wanted to go, but I hate going anywhere by myself. Sitting at the lunch table in the cafeteria was Blaine. We'd talked, but never much. He'd been in the library with his classes. That was about all the interactions we'd had. I asked him "Do you like the Black Crowes?" he said "yes." "I have an extra ticket for tonight, would you like to go?" "Sure"

He came to my house and drove us to Mud Island. He was such a gentleman and we were comfortable together. It wasn't actually a "date." It made us aware of each other. A little over a month later we started dating. Seven months later, we got married!

Time sure has flown by. I love him more everyday!

Tonight the Black Crowes were playing at Mud Island. Just one week short of 5 years to the date! Blaine drove us down Riverside Drive. Windows and Moon Roof open. Listening hard for the sound of the Black Crowes. He holds my hand while we drive. What a man!

Friends

This is my sister and me this summer. I love her dearly. I know that no matter how much I screw up or what I do, she will always be my sister and love me. I appreciate that more than she knows. I need to do a better job of conveying that to her. I don't get to see her or the rest of my family as much as I 'd like, but we're making the trip soon!

Tonight I went out to eat with a few people that work in the same school district. We don't get to see each other every day, but we sure do have a good time when we get together. We shoot the breeze and solve as many of the problems as we can! We sat at Applebee"s tonight for over two hours and just talked up a storm. Sometimes it's just good to get out of the house and have girl talk!

I appreciate them. Ouida and I became librarians the same year. We went through graduate school together and many other trials and tribulations. She is a very straight talker and will call you on stuff when you're being crazy. She's another person in my life who probably doesn't realize how much I appreciate her. She's a awesome librarian. I wanna be like her when I grow up!

I have many other friends that I've had for a long time (Lisa, Lori, Sharon, Cissy, Sara, Charlotte, Mandy, and a few others) that somehow, even when we don't talk or see each other as often as we should, are still able to just pick right up when on the phone or in person. My life would truly be less if it weren't for all the friends in my life!

Get your Gleek on!!

I have to admit that I am a HUGE fan of Glee! I have every episode saved on the DVR upstairs. I have cried during almost episode. I can't explain why. Maybe as I am getting older my hormones are out of whack.

Glee is everything I wanted to be in high school. I wanted to be a singer, a dancer, able to play an instrument, an athlete, anything! All I ever was, was an observer. I was the kid who did my homework and had good grades, but was never really the brain. I participated in Drama Club, but was never good enough to get more than 5 lines. I was a wanna be band geek. I moved there in 9th grade so I never had any really close friends and then moved after graduation. So keeping up with people from high wasn't easy, at least until Facebook. I never got invited to parties or on dates. I just wanted to be a part of something fun. I was in Key Club and worked had and was president my senior year. But I have still never felt that I was ever a popular kid.

I just think people remember me for being the fat girl who tried to be nice to everybody.

High school was not awful, I received a quality education. I just felt disappointed.

Although I am still the fat girl who tries to be nice to most people, my life since then has changed dramatically. I still don't sing, dance, play sports or an instrument well, I do get invited to parties! I have close friends that I treasure. I finally got asked on a date and met a wonderful man who loves me, just as I am.

There are still many things that could be better.

I am happy with my life.

B-E-A-utiful Day!

I could not have asked for a more beautiful day. I'm lucky that the library has a wall of windows, at least I could see how gorgeous it was today.

While Blaine was working on his paper work, I channeled my inner Betty Crocker and cooked dinner. Slow cooked green beans with onions and bacon bits, three cheese mac & cheese, sliced tomatoes, bread sticks, and a big ol' thick juicy steak! Leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

We went after dinner to visit with Blaine's parents. Had a great visit with them! After we went for a drive around town enjoying the nice weather and just being out of the house.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood!

Today we went to the Oak Court Mall because I had coupons for Auntie Anne's and Charley's! Then we went driving around stopped at TJ Maxx and Honeybaked Ham (another coupon) got sandwiches and headed home. I made Tomatoes and Noodles to go with our sandwiches.

I think we'll go back outside to enjoy the weather some more before we go to bed. Next week we'll definitely be making a trip to the zoo!

This is a picture of the Mississippi River taken down at the Mississippi Greenbelt Park by Harbortown.

At Kevin and Patrice's wedding

This is my new favorite picture of Blaine and me. It was taken at my cousin Kevin's wedding this summer.
I've lived in Arkansas all my life. But I have never been an "all-out" Razorback fan. If I happen to come across a game on tv I'll watch and root for the hawgs, but I don't go searching for a game or heaven forbid, actually go to a game.

Sitting here thinking about it, I don't think I've ever been a big fan of anything. I've been exposed to sports all my life. I have a pretty good handle on the rules and how it works, just not going to arrange my life around the games.

Are you a fan of sports or just an occasional observer?

Friday, September 24, 2010

obviously, I didn't post any pictures. I can't believe it's been a year since I even created this blog. I'm going to try and do better! Even if I'm the only one who ever reads this, I'll have a record of how I felt and what I did.

There are 152 more mornings to get up and go to work until summer vacation.

Three months until Christmas.

I am done with ALL of my Christmas shopping (except for my MIL & FIL)

This has been one of the most stress-filled school years to date.

I went to a Weight Loss Surgery Seminar. Found out it costs between $16,000 and $21,000! Gonna have to save a little more money before I go down that road!
