Peace, Love, and Books

It was finally a better day. Thank goodness. We are both still worn out. Planning on going to sleep early tonight!

Honestly, there is nothing more exciting than finding a book for a kid that they love! I had a student borrow one of my personal books and he loved it! He'd been asking me for book two and I couldn't find it. I finally found it when we did house cleaning over spring break. He was in the library and he had the biggest grin when I told him I remembered to bring it. That's why I love my job!

Today I had a Healthy Choice meal for breakfast, pork rinds (definitely not a food to eat fast!) and a piece of pizza for lunch, a 3" inch sub, apples, bbq lays, and a salad from subway for dinner.

This weekend is supposed to be beautiful! Trying to figure out what we'd like to do. Blaine suggested the zoo. I think that the zoo is going to be nuts! Any suggestions for somewhere to go on a pretty, sunny day?

Second Verse Same as the First

It rarely happens, but I just don't feel like smiling. I thought today would be better, but it was worse. That's all I'll say. 45 more days until summer vacation and then I'll be all smiles for weeks on end! Thanks to my friends and Blaine for listening to me. I couldn't survive without all of you!

This morning I ate Lean Cuisine Meatloaf & Mashed Potatoes and a stick of string cheese. For lunch I had salad with turkey, salsa, and ranch dressing. Also had a little bite of Kasey's steak, it was pretty good! For snack I had string cheese. Blaine is taking me to Memphis Pizza Cafe for dinner, he's trying to cheer me up. Oh the calories!

Smile a little smile for me Rose Marie!

Days like these bite!

It's just been one of those days. That's all I'll say.

I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes from Lean Cuisine for breakfast, salad and leftover Chicken, Broccoli Alfredo for lunch, and a Cheese Onion Enchilada with refried beans and chips and salsa for dinner. I had a Sonic Jr. Deluxe burger for a snack.

Tonight we went to visit my friend Charlotte Sidle's daughter at LeBonheur. Poor little thing. She'll be better soon! We brought her dad some dinner and needed 'supplies' and gave him a little break. After, we went to On the Border. Their salsa was so hot! I about had a meltdown!

I received lots of comments today about how it looks like I've lost weight. That makes me feel good. While I don't really see it yet, except for my face, it is nice to hear.

I know that this is a long process. It's not something that is going to happen over night. Patience is a virtue. I remember the old joke that goes, "Lord give me patience and do it now!"

Robin & Blaine's B&B

I was tired all day long. I'm sleepy and I want a nap. Instead, I went for a walk around the block with Blaine. He asked me if I felt invigorated. I laughed between pants and said NO.

We had scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, and ham for breakfast. Macaroni & Cheese from the cafeteria!!! OMG I love their Mac & Cheese!!! Black eyed peas, green beans, fried okra and part of a chicken breast. I have decided it is time to give up chicken. I am consistently getting "stuck" when I eat it. I am NOT over eating. It happens mostly on my third bite. I know I am not chewing it enough. It's an awful feeling! I had a cafeteria sized carton of orange sherbet and an afternoon snack of Sun Chips. Tonight we are having spaghetti sauce (homemade by Miss E), noodles, and garlic bread!

Now on to the tour of Robin & Blaine's B&B.
This is our dining room. Nobody actually ate in here. But I did 'fix' the table!
Here's our foyer. I have clocks set to the time zones of places I've traveled. The Eiffel Tower is set to Paris time, the Elvis clock is set to Las Vegas time, the world clock is set to our home time, and the surf board clock (that is hidden behind the globe) is set to Hawaii time. Eventually I'd like to add a DC or Orlando clock, a Hollywood clock, and after we've traveled there an Alaska and Italy clock! All our photo albums are stored in the cabinet under the clocks.

Here's our guest bathroom. I put out the hotel shampoos I'd snagged in Hawaii and the beautiful towels my Aunt Olivia and cousin Sharon gave us for Christmas.
Here's our second guest room. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of the other bedroom. This room is special to me. The bed was my Great-Grandmother's. I'm lucky to have it and the matching wash stand. There's also a quilt ladder that my dad made. It holds quilts that another great-grandmother made, one by my mother, and other by the Golden Circle quilting group from West Side First Baptist Church in the 1980's. We have quilts all over our house. We use them every day! Off to the side is the high chair that was mine as a baby. It holds my giant bunny doll that my mom made, and my collection of sock monkeys. There's a camel back trunk at the foot of the bed that holds all sorts of 'old' stuff.

I enjoyed having company. They were a hoot. Right now the house is so clean, it's weird! Feels like I'm in somebody else's house. By the weekend it should feel right again!

We'll Leave the Light on!

We have been house cleaning machines! And there's still so much we didn't do. Got tired and just said "Oh well!" This will be the first time that both guest rooms have been used! I even put out little soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and lotions. I know I'm silly but I love collecting those things from hotels! I love the lotion so much from "our" hotel in Hawaii, I found the manufacturer and ordered me a big bottle!

Blaine is such a helper. I don't know what I'd do without him. I am a horrible housekeeper, always have been. I don't know why. I wasn't raised to be messy. It just comes naturally. I'm more comfortable in slightly messy conditions. I do love when the house is clean! It just goes back to messy in the course of time. The sink doesn't look right without a pile of dishes in it!

I'm going to take some photos of our little B&B and post them later!

I ate another salad topped with cucumber salad and a cheddar bacon hamburger patty that was cooked on George. Later I had a couple of Tilapia fillets. I marinated them in lemon juice and fat free Italian dressing. They were SO good!! I don't know about dinner yet. It's a wait and see.

Oh yeah! I weighed this morning and I'm back under 300!! Hopefully that 3 is gone forever! I've lost 28 pounds since January 6, 2011.

Eat Your Vegetables!

Today was a productive day! We did lots of house cleaning. My cousin, her husband, and a couple they know are coming to stay with us tomorrow night. The house isn't in that bad of shape, but there is enough dust to make a man! I need to do some straightening and just tidying up and we'll be all ready!

We slept late this morning, still loving the fact that we are back in our bed, it's heaven! We worked on the house, still trying to get caught up with all the vacation laundry. Took a nap and then headed to Walmart. I bought cucumbers, salad mix, tomatoes, onions, red wine vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil. I was craving vegetables.

Growing up, my mom would make what she called cucumber salad. It was usually made with stuff she grown in the garden. She would dice cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions and then mix in some vinegar and oil. Let it sit for a few hours and then we'd eat ourselves silly. It was so good! Now that I make it for myself, since Blaine doesn't like it, I use red wine vinegar, EVOO, and a little Mrs. Dash. I can seriously make myself sick on this stuff. I filled a bowl with lettuce and topped it with tuna and then covered it with cucumber salad. My lips were smacking!

I really enjoy most vegetables. There are a few I don't like: bell peppers of any color, lima beans, and brussel sprouts. I've tried them all! Bell peppers make me sick, lima beans have a weird texture, and brussel sprouts have a really strong, overwhelming taste. Otherwise, I love vegetables.

I'm contemplating growing some tomatoes this summer. I love the idea of picking them off of the back porch. We might even work up to a real garden! Who knows, I may wind up being Betty Crocker after all... NAW!!!

Today I had chicken and turkey sausage alfredo with broccoli. Cucumber salad, on lettuce with tuna, and a couple of pieces of french bread hot from the oven!

I'm doing well on calories and plenty of exercise today from cleaning and running around! I go for my next fill a week from Wednesday! I'm ready and a little more prepared this time!

If You Don't Like It, You Can Only Blame Yourself!

This afternoon we left and took a little trip to Mississippi. Then we headed to my Aunt Olivia's house to visit with her and Uncle Clyde. We stayed for about 90 minutes. I helped her with some stuff on her computer. Then we headed to Genghis Grill. We had dinner with Charlotte (Hey Char!), her husband Larry, and a friend of theirs.

Genghis is a place where you go through the bar and put all the raw meats and veggies in your bowl. The you add some seasonings and sauces and they grill it all up for you. I can't wait to go back so I can try another combination! It tasted good and we had a great time visiting with friends!

We ended the night by heading to Barnes & Noble. Blaine wanted a new book. I haven't been able to convert him to a Kindle frame of mind. He wants the book in his hands! I sat in the Starbucks area and read my Kindle while he looked for a book. I bought a cookie and ate about a fourth of it. I had to! I felt guilty for being in there and reading on a competitor's e-reader!

Now we are sitting upstairs and watching The Fifth Element. I have no idea how many times I've watched this movie! I own it on DVD and Blu-Ray! I quote it at school all the time. Although most people don't realize I'm doing it. A few people have surprised me by knowing what I'm quoting. This is my most favorite movie of all time. I don't know why. It just is! Are we green? Super Green!

Not too Shabby!

The last official day of Spring Break! I woke up at 8:00! What's wrong with me? I slept so good last night! I love our bed! I got up and ate Chocolate Pie from Westside Bar-b-Que. I didn't eat it last night because I'd already used up all my calories for the day, so I saved it for this morning. It was yummy! I also had the leftover pulled pork and coleslaw with some BBQ sauce, no bread. For lunch I had my homemade beef vegetable soup. It freezes beautifully :)

I weighed this morning and lo and behold, I've LOST a pound!!! I was truly shocked! I had expected to gain a few. I guess all the extra activity helped off set my crazy eating and drinking.

We are going to Ghengis Grill tonight. I looked at their stuff online and it looks very calorie friendly! I just have to choose wisely! I love my food very hot and spicy!!!

Home Sweet Home!!!

Finally after TWELVE hours and FIVE states. I am HOME!!! So excited! Fluffy was glad we finally got home!

We checked out at 8:00 am this morning. We decided to follow Garmin's suggestion and go through Alabama. First time I have been anywhere other than Mobile and Dauphin Island. Alabama is a very pretty state, but is filled with many hills! Up and down, up and down, dang I don't think there was any land that was flat. We ate breakfast at Waffle House, scrambled egg, hash browns, sausage patty and toast. Lunch was at Panera Bread, half of a half ham & Swiss on rye and half a classic salad. Dinner was at Westside BBQ in New Albany, MS. I love this place. They have the best cakes. I have ordered a Pineapple Cake from them for the past two Thanksgivings. A-MAY-ZING! Today I got a regular BBQ plate (did not eat the bread) and a piece of chocolate pie. I have been dreaming about this pie for two years. Last time we went down there, they were sold out of the pie! It is in the fridge right now. I'm saving it for breakfast tomorrow. We stopped by Blaine's parents to get our mail and to let them know we'd made it home safe.

It is soooo nice to be back in my recliner and watching Dancing with the Stars! I love that show!

I'll have to get on the scales tomorrow and see what the damage is. I'm really dreading that moment. I'm going to do better now that I'm home and not eating out every meal. It helps that we won't be eating out every meal! I kept track on www.loseit.com and was honest. So I know it isn't pretty. I'll let you know tomorrow night!

I'm looking forward to sleeping in our bed tonight! Tomorrow night we are meeting our friends Charlotte and Larry for dinner at Ghengis Grill! A new place, hope we love it!

I'm Going HOME!

I am so ready to be back in my house! I want my bed. I want my recliner, tv, and dvr. I want my stuff, and I want the silence that comes with my home. I am officially an old, grouchy lady. I've had it with selfish, over-indulged children. They have no respect for their surroundings and the others inhabiting them. When we check out in the morning I'm going to let management know how unhappy I am. They should have a floor for the old fogies and keep us away from the young whipper snappers. I just have a feeling I'll be calling security tonight. I was informed this building observes quiet hours from 10-8. ha!

Other than that little tirade today wasn't too bad. I had leftover pizza for breakfast. We met my friend Debbie and her son Tim at Pineapple Willie's for lunch. We had a nice visit. I had the side salad and one of Blaine's ribs. We went to see Limitless with Bradley Cooper. Blaine loved it. I thought it was okay but seemed like it was never going to end! We then went down to the bar. I got a no alcohol Pina Colada and we shared a hamburger. We sat down there for hours. I went up to the room to try and take a nap, but the lovely children next to us kept slamming the door. I swear it makes the entire room vibrate and I jump six inches every time it happens! Finally, we just left the room. We went back to Po Folks in Panama City. I had a side salad, black eyed peas, turnip greens, and a chicken leg. We shared a strawberry shortcake, but I only took about 3 bites.

I have seriously blown my calorie count this week. But pre-banding it would have been MUCH MUCH worse. I just know that when I get home I'm really going to have to get on the ball about making better choices. Right now I am really enjoying fish and vegetables. Chicken and pork are not sitting so well. I don't chew them as well as I should and I hate the 'stuck' feeling they cause.

I know that Fluffy will be glad to see us. I post a picture of her soon!

I have a feeling that by the time we get home tomorrow night I'm going to be exhausted!

Happy Tuesday!

Today was a fun day. We went to a Restaurant called Po Folks. I ate lots of vegetables! Black-eyed peas, sliced tomatoes, and turnip greens. Macaroni and Cheese was my meat substitute. Everything was good!

When we got back we went to the bar area by the pool. I bought a small pina coloda (no alcohol) and a water. I feel guilty about taking up table space at a business if I don't buy something! We stayed under the umbrella for hours! I read two books on my Kindle and drained the battery dry! We shared a turkey club. The french fries looked so good, I must confess I ate a few. I'm not so good at this Lent thing :(. We went down to Pier Park and got some ice cream. I didn't even eat half of my scoop! We walked around and did some people watching.

We went to Hungry Howie's and ordered a pizza and a small chef salad. We took it back to the room and ate it on the balcony. Not too bad. We did a little hot tub time and now we're in for the night. The club down the beach from us is hosting the Ying Yang Twins tonight. I can hear the music!

A group of rude, disrespectful, inconsiderate people are now occupying the condo next to us. I fear that a call to security is in my near future! Plenty of door slamming, pounding music, and hollering going on. Now that it's after 10pm the gloves are off and I'm going to be grouchy old lady that needs her sleep!

Tomorrow is our last day here and then it's back to Arkansas. I'm sure Fluffy is getting pretty hungry. The only thing that keeps him from gnawing on a leg is the sight of house cleaning!

My Hundredth Post!!!

The beach. We love it! There's just something about the sound of waves crashing on the beach. It's so relaxing!
This is the view from the Back Porch restaurant at Pier Park, where we had lunch.
This is the view from our room. Those are people on the beach around Club La Vela. We could hear the DJ talking and the music thumping.

These are zoomed shots of the same area. What's crazy is that I was here for Spring Break 19 years ago. I don't remember being like this!

Doesn't he look happy? Being away from school is nice!
This is what I noticed from our balcony. They dug themselves a beer pong table. Hope they were able to find their way back to their rooms!

We had dinner at Pineapple Willie's. I had a non-alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri. I wanted to complete my collection of PW's cups! I had the blackened grilled grouper and mixed veggies. I had five of Blaine's fried shrimp, they were so yummy!

This is the pool area at the Boardwalk Condominiums. We went down to the pool to watch the sun set and to spend a little time in the hot tub!

After, I had to take a bath. You never know what those college kids have done in the water!!!

Looking forward to what tomorrow brings. We'll sleep much better tonight!

~Robin

Ahhhhh!

This is what happy looks like! I have to tell you that last night was pretty miserable. The bed in this room is HARD. We are used to our fluffy feather topped bed. Neither one of us slept well and were both super stiff this morning. We decided to make a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought a feather topper for this bed. We can use it on our bed at home. We needed another topper for the mattress in the second guest room.

We had lunch at the Back Porch. Super nice waitress. She let me order from the 12 and under menu!! I had grilled Mahi Mahi and a house salad. It came with french fries but I didn't eat a single one! We ordered some crab and spinach dip that was super yummy! We brought home most of the dip. It'll be good later on our little patio! We went to the Panama City Visitor's Center and picked up some coupons and pamphlets.

We stopped at Wal-Mart. What's a trip anywhere without a visit to the local store? We got some stuff and headed to the check out. Let me interject here. Sugar will catch more flies than vinegar. I have seen some of the sourest little college girls down here. Demanding, acting rude, and being a pain in the patooty. Just because you have a cute little body, it does not make up for the very ugly personality and attitude. If you weren't taught manners, Emily Post has a book, READ IT. Please and thank you still go a long way in my book. Also, be nice to older people. Even if you don't know them, give them some respect, whether you think they deserve it or not.

Can you tell I had a blast in Wal-Mart? I'm climbing off of my soapbox. Time for a nap on the new feather topper. Ahhhhh!

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!

We were up, packed, and on the road at 9:30am this morning! I ate 1/3 of a waffle, a little apple juice, a slice of bread, and a slice of turkey. We drove, stopped and got gas, I ate some Jalapeno Cheetos and drank a V8. I drove, ran over a blown out tire on the road, freaked out like a sissy girl, and Blaine drove the rest of the way. Stopped for a cup of Sonic ice and a Sonic Burger. We finally made it to Destin. We stopped in Marshall's and at the Silver Sands Outlet Mall. I bought soap in Crabtree & Evelyn. Is is EEEEvlyn or Ev-a-lyn? The bar of soap called Nantucket is my favorite!

We finally get to Panama City Beach to the Welcome Center for the Condo, give our money, sign my name, and leave a pint of blood. Get to our room and the maintenance guy lets us in this humongo room! Blaine is super excited and I'm going "Uhm excuse me, I don't think this is the right room!" Sure enough he'd let us in to 1401 and we were supposed to be in 1400. Let me tell you HUGE difference! Don't get me wrong our room is super nice, but the wrong room had 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, washer and dryer, a balcony facing directly on the beach, and just WOW!
Here's our view:
Not bad, but not WOW! After we got the car unloaded we went to eat at Sharky's. I had firecracker Shrimp Salad. Blaine ate part of it and I brought at least half of it back to the room. (We have a mini-fridge and microwave!) Then off to Target for some of our forgotten items :) I stayed in car and read on my Kindle!  Then back to the Welcome Center. I had forgotten to ask how the wi-fi works! Heaven forbid I can't get online!!! It's awesome. Each room has it's own little wi-fi, MUCH faster than the Super 8!!!

We put on our sandals and walked down to the beach. We missed sunset, but could still see and hear the waves. Blaine walked out to the water and said it was FREEZING! We walked back to the bar by the pool and I got a non-alcoholic Pina Colada. Since I drink so much water now, it's tough drinking something with so much sugar. It almost always makes me a little nauseous. I drank about 1/3 of it and we came back to the room. I put it in the fridge.

The bathroom has a great tub. I soaked away the grime from the beach and being on the road all day. Ate a slice of turkey, no bread, and now that I'm finished blogging, it's time for bed!

Here's a picture of my favorite person!

Isn't he just adorable?!?!?

Off we Go!

I got the kitchen clean! All my bags packed. Every possible thing I think I would ever need over the next few days! Of course I forgot something! Eye drops, can't have happy contacts without those, and dental flossers, can't have happy gums and teeth without those!

We stopped and visited with Blaine's parents. They are going to be visiting our Pit Bull Fluffy and watching the house! Off we went... to Sonic! Had to have a Route 44 of ice and a chicken tender sandwich. I got in a hurry and Blaine had to pull over. It got stuck and I was choked up. I didn't actually throw up. Just coughing (sorry if I'm grossing you out) up some slime. At least that's what I call it! We drove to Grenada, made a pit stop at McDonald's and I tried an Angus Wrap. I wasn't overly impressed. I drove from there to past Jackson. Stopped for some gas and Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips and Blaine drove us to Hattiesburg.

Apparently Hattiesburg is a happening place. IT'S NUTS HERE!!!! They are having some kind of Alumni weekend and it's cram packed. Good thing I booked our room online a couple of weeks ago or we would still be driving!

It took forever to get on the strip and to a place to eat. It reminded me of how Kingshighway was in Paragould before they made it wider. Bumper to bumper, loud music, and everybody who had a vehicle was out! We finally stopped at Olive Garden. I had soup, salad, half a bread stick, and some of the zucchini off Blaine's plate.

We are going to bed early and going to try to leave after breakfast! Hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to post some pretty pictures!

Another Grand Adventure

I'm sooooo sleepy and I have sooooo much to do. Yet here I am again, blogging. I have to finish packing, wash dishes, clean the kitchen, and do some more packing. Blaine did all the laundry and cleaned the living room and put away clothes. He did this while I was out getting a pedicure with my friend Jami. (Thanks for inviting me!) My toes are now Strawberry Margarita!

We drove to my cousin Sharon's and borrowed her Garmin (Thanks!) Ours has a malfunction in the wire or something and has died. Then we ate at Logan's Steakhouse. I was super good! Lettuce and extra tomatoes with ranch, steamed broccoli,  grilled tilapia, and a roll w. butter. Finally a day under my calorie limit!

For lunch today I had leftover chinese food, but it was from their "weight watch" menu, so no rice, little oil and lots of veggies! I also had some of Blaine's Chicken Lo Mein, but not much. For breakfast I had beef vegetable soup.

For snack I had a half cup of fresh strawberries and a 100 calorie cup of ice cream, it was heavenly! Before the pedicure I had half a "small" bowl of Hot and Sour Soup.

I feel much better about my consumption today. The busier I stay the less I think about food.

I'm going to be super busy in the morning, trying to get everything ready for our next grand adventure. Stayed tuned. Same Bat Channel, Same Bat Station!

Not Better, Not Worse

Mentally today was better. Calorie-wise it was worse. We had parent teacher conferences and we had Chinese food delivered. I still did better than I would have pre-band. No exercising today. I was just worn out when we got home.

What I ate today:
Lean Cuisine Spaghetti
Lean Cuisine Chicken Carbonara
Fuji Apple
Cheetos - 160 calorie bag
(not too bad at this point)
Eggroll
1 stick Teriyaki Chicken
1/3 Hot & Sour Soup - small order
4 shrimp with the breading pulled off
6 cheese wontons
3 small pieces of sweet & sour chicken
(the chinese food was eaten over a period of 2 1/2 hours)

I sit here thinking how the heck did I get all that food in my stomach!

On a positive note, I am still doing great on giving potatoes up! I have been eating more salad with great success and no sickness.

I find myself wondering if my band slipped down some and that's why I'm able to eat more. I wonder if this is normal at the beginning.  I just don't know. This is why I need to find a local support group to attend. Sometimes what I don't know is what keeps me up at night.

Thanks again for all the positive words of encouragement. If you want to leave a comment (without joining anything) just choose anonymous,  type your comment, please include your name, and type in the captcha so the computer knows you are a real person. I read each and every comment!

I plan to do lots of walking on the beach next week! and for you would be burglars, I have a pit bull that will be very hungry and in-laws that will be checking the house several times a day! But if you'd like to break in and clean my house, give me a call!

I Feel Like a Failure

I have never been forced to eat anything. I do it of my own free will. I am addicted to food. I truly believe that it is an addiction. The reason I got the lap band was because I realize that I can not do this on my own. If Blaine suggests we go out to eat, I say sure. If I would say NO, let's eat at home. He would be fine with that. I am the problem. I can't blame Blaine for something I've been dealing with my entire life. I love food like an alcoholic loves liquor. I crave it. If I'm not sleeping well, I think I need something to eat to help me sleep. If I don't feel well, I think some food item will cure my ills. If I'm sad, chocolate is the answer.

Part of this reprogramming is to replace food in all those situations. That's the hard part. Exercising is my other problem. As soon as I get home, I want to kick off my shoes and put on my pajamas. I just want to relax. I have no desire to go for a walk, get on the treadmill, or do anything that might cause me to break out into a sweat.  I don't do anything well by myself. I have the same problem as some of the kids at school: I am not motivated.

Sure I want to lose this weight. It's awesome that I've lost what I have. I love that I have more clothes in the closet that fit! But then, the weight loss, just kinda stops. I got to 298 and was soooooo excited it was a red-letter day. Then I get back on the scales and it says 302. I don't want to admit it to anyone. But here I am now, I've gained back 4 pounds. I feel disgusted with myself. But not so disgusted that it keep me from eating at Gus's Fried Chicken tonight. I had 4 slices of fried green tomatoes, two chicken legs, a thigh, and a small order of baked beans. Good grief! Now I sit here with a cupcake in a little Chinese box just waiting for me to eat it. Why? Because I felt so guilty after dinner, that a cupcake just seemed like the thing to do. I'm not stupid, I've always been rather confident in my intellectual abilities, but when it comes to food decisions... I'm an idiot. I'm like the little kid who keeps touching the stove after they've already burnt their finger. I know that food makes me fatter!

We have invested too much money in this surgery for me to continue to make bad decisions, period, statement, declarative sentence! (Anybody remember Shurley English?)

I am not so proud that I can't admit I need support. Any tips you might have, prayers, encouragement, all things are appreciated. What I don't handle well is anything in a negative tone. I need to be lifted up, not torn down. If you have my cell phone, feel free to text me anytime. You can ask me what I'm eating, if I'm staying on track, ask me to go for a walk, or just tell me that you love me. I need you more than you know.

This blog has been an amazing journey for me. It started out as a way for me to keep track of my trip through Lap Band surgery and has become a journal of my life. It's cathartic. It's also humbling to know that not just my 7 followers are reading it. This journey isn't going to be easy or short. It's going to be difficult and last a lifetime.

Love to you all!

~Robin

50 More Days Until Summer Vacation!

50 more days to get up and go to work until summer vacation! 10 more weeks!!! Lots will happen in the those weeks. I'll keep you updated as they happen!

I wish I didn't have to wait so long between fills. I'm getting munchy all the time again. I'm not losing weight. I know I need to exercise more and I'm working on that! I know that the band still has quite a bit more room left for 'tightening'. I see my friend who had gastric bypass 4 days after me and she's lost 52 pounds! I'm so excited for her, but I'm also a little jealous. It's a slow process for me and I have to work on my patience. Patience has never been a strong personality trait for me! Another friend is just dieting and she's lost more weight than me. I'm proud of her, but still a little jealous. April 6 is my next appointment!

Today I had:
scrambled eggs
bacon
pasta salad
Fuji apple
pork rinds
No idea what's for supper yet. According to www.loseit.com I have about 900 calories left for the day. I will try and use them wisely!

Tomorrow is parent teacher conferences. AKA Teacher Torture. It always seems to happen around time change. It's miserable. We are so tired and then have to get up and go to school the next day. We are like zombies. I usually help pass out report cards, rarely anybody comes to see the librarian. That's okay! It's such a pretty day outside, Blaine and I are going to go do something in the sunshine!

Is that your final answer?

Tonight was trivia night at the Flying Saucer. We met Shirey and another couple there. Some of the questions were ridiculous, like what are the moves for some Nintendo game? The answer was like up, up, down, A, B, down. Good grief! Many of them we got, some we didn't and smacked our foreheads when we found out the answers. Overall we had a great time. We always have a good time! But when we get home, showers are necessary to remove all the smoke!

Today didn't start off too great for me. I had a lot on my mind last night and wasn't able to get any sleep until 4:30 am and then I was back awake at 6:30! There was no way I would have been able to function at work today. I called in and then went back to sleep. I did NOT get on the computer or watch television, shocker, I know! I slept ALL day long I feel so much better. Hopefully I'll be sleeping better tonight. Usually I am an excellent sleeper. One of the few things I do very well. My brain is the only thing that disrupts that. When something is bothering me, it's like my brain won't shut down, it spins constantly and I just lay there and stare at the ceiling. I have some big decisions coming up. I know that no matter what happens, I will be where God wants me to be. I'll sleep better tonight.

Last night before going to bed, I put the ingredients for Beef Vegetable Soup in the crock pot. I got up and fixed Blaine his lunch for school and sent him off to work. I had a bowl for breakfast, another for lunch, and one more for a snack. I had a club sandwich with a side salad for dinner. A few prunes and I'm done for the night. They are one of my favorite snacks!

Three more school days until Spring Break! I'm so excited!

It's all Greek to me!

Today I tried Greek yogurt for the first time. I normally enjoy regular yogurt. I did NOT enjoy this. It was really thick and sour. I had gotten strawberry flavor and it didn't help. I can't begin to imagine what plain tastes like. I think I will still with the regular stuff!

I had a pretty good day today. I really appreciate my friends, just so you know! March is going to go out with a bang! I'm sure of it! Spring break and house guests, the hits just keep on rolling!

I continue to feel an increase in my energy. I'm still taking my vitamins and b-12 tablet every day. I love my gummy vitamins, feels like I'm getting candy! I appreciate all the words of encouragement, it keeps me going! Thank you very much!

Today I ate:
Scrambled eggs
Slice of ham
1 1/2 Fuji apples
Chicken leg
Lean Cuisine spring rolls
Whole Dill Pickle
2 Salmon patties
Green Giant Single Cauliflower and cheese sauce
Suddenly Salad (Pasta Salad)
1/2 container Strawberry Greek yogurt

Wish I had more to say!

Let's get Animal!

We sprung forward with great success! We got this cool alarm clock for Christmas from Alan and Sharon and it sprung forward all by itself! That's my kind of clock! Now if they just made a bed that would make itself I'd be set!

We started off our day at the zoo! I did much better this time! I was able to do almost all of our regular loop! We did skip most of Primate Canyon. We went to Picadilly for lunch. I had 2 chicken strips, garlic toast, and turnip greens. Mmmm Mmmm! Target was next and I had about $10 in coupons there! I love coupons! A trip to Marshall's and TJMaxx for Blaine, I stayed in the car and read my Kindle. We stopped by Firehouse Subs. I had a Groupon and we used it and a quarter and got two sandwiches, a bag of chips and a drink! I got a text from my friend Char (hey Char! *waving*) and we met her and her husband and their friend Todd at the Cinema. Battle for LA, let's just say it isn't my kind of movie. Stopped for a visit with the in-laws and now I'm in for the night!
I've had to add another band on top of my rings. This is to keep my engagement ring from falling off. I had discussed taking it off and putting it away for a while, but this works too!

I feel like I did pretty good with all the walking today. I've learned that I need to walk before eating to avoid getting sick. I'm going to do better about the exercise. I'm worse about exercising than I am eating right!

Today's food:
lean cuisine spaghetti and meatballs
2 chicken strips
turnip greens
garlic bread
fuji apple
small bag cheetos
popcorn
hook and ladder sub
pickle spear
jalapeno
carrot souffle
light lemonade

Dang, that looks like a lot! I'm trying to stop getting on the scales every time I walk by them. I'm going to start weighing on Mondays and try to stick to that! Last time I weighed I was at 298 lbs. That's 29 gone! I've also put a box in my closet. When I put on something and it's too big, it's going in the box! Makes me fill good to see it filling up!

One of those days

Ever have one of those days? Where it seems like Murphy's law is in effect? Today was my turn. I was driving and didn't know where I was and got super frustrated! (I couldn't find my way out of a wet paper sack without my Garmin!) I got so mad I pulled over and Blaine drove the rest of the way, even though he wasn't feeling so good. We went to Sam's. It seemed like every person would just get in front of my buggy and come to a dead stop in the middle of the aisle. Seriously? Pull over the side and get out of my way! Then I hit one of my fingers on a shelf. I couldn't find the Laffy Taffy and nobody wanted to help. I finally found it and there was only one bucket left. We finally get checked out and back in the car. It's just best at this point to go straight home. I yipped at Blaine. I apologized to Blaine. He still wasn't feeling so hot. I went to Subway and got us food. I misunderstood what he said and didn't get the right stuff on his sandwich. The Subway guy left toppings off of my salad. I'm staying in the rest of the night. I'm afraid I'll have a flat or have an accident! I know nothing was major, but the little irritants add up!

I had leftover grilled tilapia and fried okra for breakfast, chicken stir-fry and squash for lunch, a couple of cookies for a snack, and a black forest ham salad from Subway for dinner. This is my first 'big' salad since January. It tasted soooo good. It would have been better with the jalapenos and banana peppers on it!

Tomorrow is going to be a better day. Hopefully the time change won't throw me and I'll get back into the swing of things! Don't forget to "Spring Forward" tonight!

Have a Nice Day!

Today was a very nice day. Work went well. The kids weren't awful, which is always good! Physically, I felt the best today that I have in months! It was a big boost mentally. But when I got home, I was hungry and drank some Pom Cherry juice. I think it was a too much and it made me feel bad FAST! It was so depressing. We went to Colton's. I ate a roll, two bones of Blaine's ribs (which caused the stuck feeling again!), half of my blackened tilapia, and some fried okra.

I wasn't raised participating in Lent. But this year I decided to give up potatoes for Lent. It just felt like the right thing to do. I have been eating too many potatoes. I realized that I was entering them into my food diary at least once a day. If these 40 days go well, I may give them up permanently. Carbs are my favorite food. I know that giving them up will be better for me and for losing weight. But giving up something that has provided so much comfort, that's tough! I want to concentrate on eating healthier. It's going to take time and determination.

After dinner we went driving around. I texted Jami that we were doing a drive-by of her house. She told us don't shoot it up or just stop and play pool. We stopped and played, but not pool! We played with her sweet puppy, Cooper Lee. He loved playing tug of war with Blaine and me! I felt like I was getting an ab workout! It was nice to just have some stress free fun! Thanks Jami and Cooper Lee!

Kool-Aid and Crackers

Today in the library there was a class of 8th and 9th grade girls. We were sitting around the table and they were discussing about going to church together. One girl questioned the other about what Sunday's sermon had been about. She answered "You know, the kool-aid and the crackers" I was confused, I asked her to repeat it. We finally figured out she was talking about the body of Christ and the Lord's Supper.  I couldn't quit laughing! I sent a text to several people. I wanted them to be able to share my laugh.

This is one of the things I love about being an educator. They provide lots of entertaining moments!

It was also Chili Day in the cafeteria! I ate my whole bowl of chili with crackers and half of my cinnamon roll. For breakfast, I ate the meat off of a Lenny's Club Sub. I had dinner at Applebee's with a couple of my librarian friends. We always have fun. I ate Teriyaki Chicken Pasta and a Brownie Bite. My snack today was a bag of Cheetos. I still managed to stay under my www.loseit.com goal for today!

I'd like to share a little story about my little brother. When he was little he asked Mom if everything was in black and white when she was little. She asked why he would think that. He replied, "All the old movies and pictures are black and white so I thought everything was!" I love that story! Love you Jim!

Do you have a funny story?

I am NOT Julia Child!

Tonight I tried a new recipe in the kitchen, blechh! I bought some Philadelphia Cream for Cooking Garlic Flavor. I grilled some chicken tenderloins on George and cut them into bite size pieces. Mixed that together with the cream, mushrooms, and broccoli florets. Put that all on top of a loaf of bread dough. Cooked it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. I have to tell you it was BEAUTIFUL! I almost took a picture and texted it to my sister. It tasted awful! I was so disappointed. Good thing I'd made a chicken pot pie pocket for Blaine. I rarely screw up chicken pot pie!

Chicken Pot Pie Pocket
1 can Homestyle Veg-all
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 large can chunk chicken
2 "roll out" pie crusts

Preheat oven to 350. Defrost pie crust for 10-20 seconds in Microwave. Roll out pie crusts. Mix cans together (enough for two crusts) Fill and fold over and pinch edges. Bake for 20-30 minutes. Mmm! Blaine loves it.

We had a Sausage Egg Cheese McMuffin for breakfast, never again. It got "stuck" but I didn't throw up. I guess I'm eating too fast or not chewing enough, but I think I am. More thinking, more chewing, being more careful! Lunch was a baked potato with Fat free Italian dressing, 1/2 of a child size cheese quesadilla, and some refried beans (1/2 cup). Dinner was a couple bites of the nasty kitchen experiment and some pot pie. I'm done for the night!

Oh yeah, I can feel the band through my skin, it feels kind of like a rock underneath. If you ask, I'll let you feel :-D It's weird!

7 more days until Spring Break and 55 more days until Summer Vacation!

Anybody want to go to Hawaii the first week of November? I was on American Express Travel today and found two roundtrip ticket and hotel from Oct. 29 - Nov 4, leaving from Memphis for $1,836.74!! That price is for TWO people, that's not bad! Especially, considering how crazy prices for flights are right now! You can actually get a cheaper rate at a different hotel, or go pricier with other choices.

Any takers?
