A charming woman is a busy woman. Loretta Young

It was a busy day and a busy night. First my friend, Sara and her husband, Allen, came over. I had a couple of boiled eggs and leftover ham from breakfast. While Sara and I went to the Weight Watcher Ice Cream Party, Allen and Blaine hung out. The ice cream party was fun. We drank punch and ate a Weight Watcher Ice Cream treat. I ate a turkey hot dog, couple of crackers, and a small amount of pork BBQ. We didn't stay long, I had to get going to my aunt's birthday party.

We went to Wal-Mart and got some stuff for the party, birthday cards, presents, and some other 'necessities', like a new purse :) When we got there, we hugged and kissed everybody, finished cooking up the food, and ATE. I had beef tenderloin, hash brown casserole, steamed veggies, and a roll. I did skip the carrot cake birthday cake and ice cream. I took some pictures and then my camera died, again! I'm getting tired of it. I think (I hope) it's my rechargeable battery. I'm going to get a new battery and see if that fixes things.

Hopefully, I will be able to post pictures tomorrow. I love my family. My aunt Olivia has a special place in my heart. She is everything I want to be. She is such an inspiration and a role model of what a strong woman is.

Tomorrow my in-laws and Blaine's aunt are coming over for 'healthy' lunch. I'm marinating cod fillets in lemon juice and Italian dressing. I'm planning on baking them in the oven. I also have salad fixin's, fresh corn on the cob, green beans, hash brown casserole, and strawberries and cool whip for dessert. I'm planning a nap tomorrow afternoon!

Random Acts of Kindness

We went to school and I got my Kindle! Whew! Then we went to Huddle House for breakfast. We got something called the High Rise. OMG! there was so much food! I won't tell you what Blaine ate, but I ate scrambled eggs with gravy, toast, hash browns all the way, and ham. There was so much leftover we brought home a FULL to-go box!

When we got home, we discovered that neither one of us had put last nights to-go boxes in the fridge. All that wonderful salad just got tossed in the trash, I was seriously sad. Then it was time to mow the backyard, that always makes me happy! I felt so good, I mowed my neighbor's backyard too! Do you think they'll notice the ruts I left from doing donuts? I don't do front yards, I'm a little paranoid of sidewalks and trees.

Do you ever do something nice just for the heck of it? It felt really good!

Ice Cream, Birthdays, and Family Dinners, oh my!

I woke up before 8:00 this morning! I am NOT a morning person. I regularly beg for an extra 5 minutes in the mornings. I guess my brain knows I have a lot going on today.

First things first. I left my Kindle at school! Oh the horror, I hope it is still there! Next, I need to clean and straighten on the house. Luckily, I have an awesome husband who cleans too! I have a Weight Watchers Ice Cream party I've been invited to attend. One of my work friends is hosting it. Tonight my cousin, Sharon, is having a birthday dinner for my Aunt Olivia! Once I get going, I'll be running around like a chicken with its head cut off!

Last night we didn't go to the movies. We did go eat at Sicily's. I saw my friend Nancy there. She's been my go-to girl for lap-band questions. So thankful for her! I ate a couple of captain's crackers and ordered a chef salad! As soon as they delivered the salad I asked for a to-go box. Their salads are HUGE! I put about 80% of the salad in the box and started eating. I also ate half a piece of garlic bread and was stealing some of Blaine's meat and marinara from his Meat Lover's Calzone. I wound up putting more salad in the to-go box.

I haven't had breakfast yet, I'm probably going to have some more salad! I'll get my motor revving eventually!

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Due to the weather we've had this past week, my school's academic awards night was canceled. They decided to reschedule it for Tuesday night, the night of my Pampered Chef party!!! It wouldn't be that big of a deal except that 95% of the folks I invited work with me. Blech!

It's just been one of those days. I should know by Monday evening when the new date will be.

Right now, I'm watching the Royal Wedding. I DVR'd it! The most annoying thing about it all is Katie Couric's voice. Why can't she be quiet?

I had lasagna for lunch. I did eat two portions of salad and 1 1/2 portions of strawberry shortcake :) I gave Blaine my bread and didn't eat any of the sweet potatoes.

Tonight we're planning on going to see a movie and not sure where we're going to eat. I'll do my best to make smart choices!

All Southern Women Grow Tomatoes

As promised, here are my tomato pictures!!

New plant from Wal-Mart. It already had tomatoes!!!
I put my finger in there, for a size reference.
Aren't they beautiful?

I also took some pictures of our house. These are before my awesome Father-in-law came over!
Patch of shingles missing from the roof.
 Disconnected gutter
More messed up gutter.
He also told us we have some loose siding, but that it should be easy to re-attach.

I was eating some leftover Chinese this morning. My friend, Sara, looks at me and goes "you're stuck, aren't you?" I said yes. She told me I had a "look" on my face. I think Blaine is also starting to recognize this look. It isn't happening as often, but it still happens. Mostly when I try to eat too fast. I'm gradually getting better about how I eat. It's a learning process!

If Life Deals You Tomatoes...

If Life deals you tomatoes, make Bloody Marys! When we got home today, all sorts of good things were going on! My awesome Father-in-law fixed our roof! We got Buy a 3 piece, get a 2 piece free at Popeye's, and my tomato has tiny little tomatoes the size of marbles!!!! I took all these wonderful pictures, so I could post and show you. But, I left the camera cable at school. Not to be deterred, I went to Wal-Mart. I found the cable I needed, some other absolute necessities, like a King Size quilt on clearance for $18, nail hardener, a nail kit, nail decals, a couple of Hastas, and another tomato plant! You know, the necessities!

When I got home, I brought all my booty in. Put on my new gardening gloves, to avoid the dirty nails, and went to work. I pulled weeds, and planted my Hastas. I then took more pictures of my pride and joy. I came inside and proceeded to download my pictures. NOTHING, the cable I bought fits, but when I plug everything up and turn it on, NADA. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the pics!

Today was a landmark day at school. I bought cupcakes and ice cream sandwiches for the Accelerated Reader Lunch Club. I did NOT EAT a single one! I did eat two pieces of good chocolate with caramel, only 80 calories! For breakfast I had leftover sliders and boneless chicken from Chili's and for lunch TAMALES!!! I did have salad with my chicken from Popeye's. I also cooked some corn on the cob, but I haven't eaten it yet, no room!

Stay tuned tomorrow for tomato pics!

Chicken Tamales!

We finally got out of the house today! We drove around and checked things out. First we stopped at Baskin-Robbins and got a scoop for $.31!!! I didn't eat it all, but that orange sherbet was yummy! West Memphis still has lots of folks with no power. Still not sure if we'll be having school tomorrow.

Best Buy called and Blaine's computer has been healed!!! We had dinner at Chili's to celebrate. I had some Texas Cheese Fries, Shrimp, and half of a southwestern egg roll. We got home and I re-installed the router software on Blaine's computer and he was good to go! My friends, Jami and Christian, came over and brought me chicken tamales! Hand made by Christian's mama, they are so good! If you live in the area, I can hook you up, they are awesome!

For breakfast I had a pastrami sandwich with Miracle Whip light. Lunch was chicken alfredo pasta. I did eat a snicker egg (1 oz) and some croutons for snack. No getting stuck today!

I'm going to try and take pictures of our house tomorrow. We are so blessed we didn't have more damage. After seeing all the damaged fences, Blaine has now decided we don't need a fence! LOL! I hope the storms are done for a while. Now Memphis is preparing for the 3rd largest crest of the Mississippi River, ever! We saw the river today, it's HUGE. I've never seen it this high! They are expecting it to crest in the next 10 days, I think. We may need to invest in a boat!

The Night the Lights Went Out

What a night! We knew the storms were coming. We went and got Chinese food and brought it home after the faculty meeting at school. We even stayed downstairs. Then the sirens started. It got really loud and I started freaking out. I got in the bathtub. Blaine's looking out the windows. Then he gets in the tub, I know it's bad. He tells me he saw the storage building from the house across the street hit the neighbor's house! Our power is out!

It finally lets up. We go outside. A big patch of shingles is missing from our roof. Our trash can is MIA but the trash is all over the street. We pick up as much as we can. The neighbors, two doors down, have found their trampoline in another neighbor's yard, a mailbox is down, a flag pole down, the street is flooded, and more storms on the way. We have no way, other than texting, to keep up with what is heading our way.

I light three candles. They supplement our dying flashlight and book light. I put a DVD in the computer and we watched it until the laptop died. We finally go to bed. The power comes back on around 2:15. It goes back off. It comes back about 3:30. Blaine gets dressed and moves a car out of the garage. The alarm on the cell phone goes off. Blaine's already in the shower.  Time for work.

The phone rings, it's work. NO SCHOOL! I wonder what has happened all over town. Blaine goes to check on his parents. He finally comes home. They are okay and he found the trash can!

I'm watching the Today Show. They are in West Memphis! More storms expected. Enough! Hopefully, it'll just be more rain.

I got sick last night. I tried to eat egg roll and it was awful! No more egg rolls! Maybe it was the egg rolls, maybe it was my nerves.

Storms kinda freak me out. When I was 14 a big bad tornado hit the town where we lived. It was awful. My cousin was killed. I remember seeing the house where she and her daughter lived. It looked like it had been blown up. I always remember that day, March 15, the Ides of March. I know Becky does too. The bridge and lots of other houses were blown away. Devastation. That's the only word I can use to describe what I remember.

Stay safe. I'll do my best to stay safe too!

Don't Hate Me

Don't hate me. Blaine bought me the most awesomest Easter basket, EVER! He is NOT a Glee fan! He knows I LOVE it!
Is this not the greatest? It has a binder (I can use it to start keeping track of my coupons!), a mouse pad, pen, note pad, CD organizer, pencil case, candy and a Glee pillow!

We hit Kroger and Wal-Mart and got some deals on after Easter candy, pencils, and bubbles!

It's so hard to pass up the great after-holiday sales!

Love is Like a Booger

Love is like a booger. You keep picking at it until you get it, then you wonder what to do with it.

With all the storms going through the country, I worry about my family. I worry when Blaine leaves the house without me. I tell him to be safe and that I love him. I would be heart broken without him. I know that I would survive, but I don't like to think about it.

I've never handled death well. I don't know anybody who does. I go to funerals because it's the right thing to do. It tickles me when somebody says, "I don't like funerals." Who does? The hospital is the same way. The only time people enjoy going to see somebody in the hospital is when a baby is born. I don't think people should ever use the excuse "I don't like it." Man up! Do what's right!

My band has been acting much better! Today I had a sausage, egg, and cheese McGriddle. Lunch was salad, ham, green beans, and yams. Fat Free Pringles and sliced tomatoes with tuna salad for snack. Dinner is going to be green beans, mashed potatoes, sliced tomatoes and beef tips with gravy. I've felt super hungry today. Hopefully, it's just hormones.

“A tree is known by its fruit”

Today we spent the afternoon with Blaine's family. We had a great time and I took lots of photos!

This is a picture of the final product of my strawberry cake recipe. Things didn't go quite like I planned. No jello was harmed in the making of this cake. I'm also pleased to announce, I did not eat a single piece!
Blaine's sister is so sweet. She had a birthday cake for him!
She has the most gorgeous back yard! It has a lake and a dock where you can fish.
Blaine Jr. and Blaine Sr.
Blaine's nephew, Block, and his buddy, Gentry.
The star of the afternoon, Blaine's great-nephew, Thompson. I like to refer to him as "Deuce." I only do it when nobody else is listening!
Blaine's sister and Blaine's mother with Thompson.

Thompson with his mom & dad.
I had a blast getting to see him!
This is my absolutely, favorite picture of the day! I'm going to have to print it and frame it for the house!
If you look closely, you'll see that Blaine's piece of cake has his name on it!

I always enjoy spending time with Blaine's family.

On to the food:
Breakfast: Wheat Thins Stix
Lunch: Chicken Alfredo
Dinner: Ham, green bean casserole, tomato, cucumber salad, roll, salad, croutons, raspberry vinaigrette, scalloped potatoes, and cheese.

I know that dinner sounds like a lot but I only had a tablespoon of most of that stuff and the roll was very small. I didn't get "stuck" a single time. I also managed to avoid all the desserts. I'm quite proud of myself.

On a brighter note, I weighed again this morning and the crazy scales said 289 again!!!

Faith is putting all your eggs in God's basket

Faith is putting all your eggs in God's basket, then counting your blessings before they hatch. - Ramona C. Carroll

This morning I weighed 291. I have weighed 289 several days now. I don't know if it's my crazy scales or what. 36 pounds in 3 months is still pretty good. I'll take it!

This afternoon, we are going to Blaine's sister's house in Wynne. I'm supposed to be taking a strawberry cake. I guess I need to get on that! I'm planning on a yellow cake, soaked in jello, with strawberries and cool-whip between the layers.

I'm so lucky to have married into a family I like. Some people aren't that lucky.

Remember that Jesus is the reason for Easter.

Any Girl Can Look Glamorous

Any girl can be glamorous.
All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.
Hedy Lamarr

This is me with my hair blowing in the breeze of the fan upstairs. It's stinking hot up here. It will stay like this until November.

Today was a much better day! We took the Pineapple Upside Down cakes to Blaine's parents and aunt. We then went to Steak and Shake. I had a spicy chipotle burger and fries. We went to Best Buy and dropped off Blaine's computer, it has a cold and needs treatment. It really ticks me off that I have purchased anti-virus software and protection and I still have to have his computer fixed AND I have to pay for it! Arghh!

We headed for Shoe Carnival and Marshall's. Then to Sam's! I love their cold room! I've often thought of going to the lawn chair aisle, grabbing one, and then camping out in the cold room! It's like a giant refrigerator filled with fruits and vegetables. When I hit "the change" I plan on moving in the cold room!

A trip to Wal-Mart and KFC and we were in for the night. For dinner I had a salad and a chicken leg. Now we're watching a movie and thankful for a much better today. I didn't get stuck today :)

p.s. Anybody out there have any suggestions for how to fix a garage door that closes and opens right back up? Sometimes we have to click it four times before it finally stays closed. It's really starting to annoy me!

Muphree's Law

Murphree's Law - If it can go wrong, it will.

Today was one of THOSE days. Unhappy things just kept happening. Poor Blaine, not the best thing to have happen on his birthday. I won't go into the bad stuff. It was bad enough the first time! Nothing that horrible, just a bunch of little, irritating things.

I'm just going to share the happy highlights!

This morning I went outside and potted my new tomato plant. I now have three pots in my Potted Garden. (Happy now Christie?)

We went to Memphis and had lunch at Piccadilly. I had chicken strips, garlic toast, and carrot souffle. We went to Marshall's. I sat out in the car and read my Kindle. We went to another Marshall's, I read some more. We stopped by Gigi's cupcakes and shared a banana split cupcake and a bottle of water. A stop by TJMaxx, I read again. One more Marshall's and then we headed home. (I'm about half way through my book!) When we got back to our side of the river, we went to Margarita's Mexican Restaurant. I had salsa, chips, fish tacos, and refried beans.

After we got home, I made Blaine's birthday cake. FYI I have not eaten any of it! I made four little cakes. I'm going to take one to his mom and dad, his aunt, and anybody else I can think might want it!

I also stood out in the street for a while and visited with our neighbors across the street. They are so nice. That's what I love about my neighborhood. I have some really sweet people around me!

In lap-band news, I only got half-stuck today, if that's possible. Not as bad as before, but not good.

~Robin

It'll be the last place you look.

Today at Kelly's Korner she is asking for suggestions about being organized. I'm not the best person to be giving advice about being organized. I'm constantly losing things or forgetting where I put them. Blaine's favorite response to my constant search for things is, "It'll be the last place you look!" I hear this phrase so often, it often brings out a violent streak in me.

I dream of being organized. I love containers with lids, shelf organizers, and all those things at the store that are supposed to make your life easier. They never do, but I do love to purchase and hope they are my "magic pill" for neatness and organization.

I love having everything where I can see it. I hate having to 'dig' for anything. When things aren't where I can see them, I forget about them. When things are forgotten, they don't get used.

My closet is awful. Blaine tried to clean it one time. It stressed me out so bad. I couldn't find anything! It wasn't in the pile I expected it to be. It was hung up and not where I could see it.

At times I'm more comfortable with my mess, than when the house is super neat and pretty. Old habits are hard to change. Love me, love my mess!

Duct tape is like the force.

Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together.

These are not the most flattering pictures, but they are true depictions of my life! Blaine and I have a blast. We act silly and we love each other!

Today was our last day of school this week. Hallelujah! Tomorrow is Earth Day, but more importantly, it is Blaine's birthday! We began celebrating tonight! We went to dinner at Genghis Grill! I had a coupon I'd bought online. I paid $20 and received four $10 gift certificates! Tonight's dinner only cost $14.18+tip! Then we went to Home Depot and I bought some more soil and a new tomato plant. This time I bought one that is mostly grown and already has flowers on it! Hopefully, that will help it to survive my brown thumb!

For breakfast I had a ham sandwich. Lunch was a beef & macaroni tray from the cafeteria. I gave Blaine my roll, but he gave me his deviled egg! It also came with a little salad. I had fat free Pringles and pintos & cheese for snack. My Genghis bowl had polish sausage, shrimp, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, squash, jalapenos, green onions, and lots of hot seasonings! It was soooo good!

I did get stuck again today. This is getting old. After it happens I'm fine. It happens after the first 3-4 bites. I get 'unstuck' and everything is fine. Today, ham was the culprit. So now, I'm avoiding scrambled eggs and deli ham. It's going to take time, I will get used to the band and how it works best for me!

I plan on having tons of fun tomorrow celebrating Blaine's birthday! I hope he does too!

Friendship is Like Peeing On Yourself

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

I have some of the best friends in the world. Some have passed through my life briefly. Others have endured the long haul. My sister is the friend I've had the longest. Blaine is the best "boy" friend I've ever had. There's been times in my life that I felt so alone, but I never was. Friends got me through my toughest times. Guys who were jerks, when I got an annulment, and when my mom died. They also were there for the fun times! Trips to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, going to Europe, finishing college, going to the dog track, Margaritas, and getting married.

I love my friends. It's hard for me to understand a person that does not have a circle of friends. Who's there for them? Who celebrates with them? I could never be a "lone wolf."  Friendship is something to be treasured. It hurts my soul when friendships end badly. Something I've experienced more than I like. It's what I'd imagine a divorce to be. I haven't been the best friend at time. I'm striving to be a better friend.

To all my friends, thank you for being a part of my life. I may not say it enough, but it's true. You have been the best friends ever!

Three's Company!

Tonight my friend, Jami, came over for Taco Night! She's so sweet! She also makes the best spaghetti sauce! I love it, I plead for it. We had fun sharing dinner. We even sat at the kitchen table! After dinner, Jami and I went upstairs and chatted and played around with Photo Booth!

After Jami left, I finished cleaning the kitchen. Then I capped and sliced some strawberries. We are going to Blaine's sister's house for Easter lunch. I said that I would bring a strawberry layer cake. If my camera is acting right, I'll take and post a picture.
This morning Blaine made me breakfast. My grilled Ham & Cheese for breakfast was delicious. For lunch I had Stromboli, Popeye salad, and apple crisp. Snack was a cup of vegetable soup. I managed to resist the Cheetos for today. Dinner was taco shells, ground seasoned beef, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cheese, and taco sauce.

Tomorrow is our last day for the week! No school on Friday! It's also Blaine's birthday! He wants me to make him a Pineapple Upside Down Cake and I'm going to do it! He doesn't ask for much from the kitchen. He's such a sport when it comes to my culinary experiments!

I do have to report that I got 'stuck' again today. At least it was just once and not several times.

~Robin
