I love these things!

Thursday was Day 19 of summer vacation. We got out and picked up our Boston Butt that we bought from the local high school band. (It's delicious!)

After a lunch at Margarita's we hit all the hardware stores in town. We were looking for brushed nickel brackets for our hall hand rail. Dang, everybody had plenty of shiny brass ones. We finally found one at Barton's! Are gold fixtures coming back into style? I hope not.

I do believe the thing I love most about summer vacation is taking a nap! I took a good one today! After nap time I got up and got ready and we went to the movies!

We watched Super 8. I really liked it. Don't take your kids if harsh language bothers you, there is plenty in this movie. There are also moments that scared the crap outta me! Also, there are moments of children defying their parents, drinking, and drug use. I was happy with the movie and how it ended. Stay for the credits, if you go to see it!

We ended our night driving through down town Memphis and stopping at Wal*Mart. It was a good day!

Thursday a milestone for me, I drank SODA. I sipped it carefully and it didn't make me sick. I can NOT drink soda out of a can, that has way too much carbonation! I did get a little sick at lunch time. But I really blame skipping breakfast and letting myself get too hungry, I was eating too fast and got sick.

Today's food:
Cheese Quesadilla, Margarita Dip, Chips & Salsa, Swiss & Turkey Croissant, Boston Butt, Tomatoes, and bbq sauce

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours. ~Wayne Dyer

I like the idea of Karma and the Golden Rule. Treat people how you want to be treated.

Growing up I was made fun of for being fat. There were guys who didn't want to date me because I was fat. I was okay to be friends with, but never okay to take home to mom.

I acknowledge that I was extremely obnoxious growing up. I like to think that has calmed down as I've gotten older.

I would also like to preface this blog with the following statement: I would never wish obesity on anybody. It is unhealthy and stressful.

Because of facebook, I have been able to see people that made my life miserable at times. Either by teasing me, excluding me, or ignoring me, they made me feel inferior. Now I see them in pictures and they look like I did. Is this karma?

Is it wrong of me to giggle just a bit? Is it just human? I don't run up to them when I see them and go "HAHAHA you're fat! or your wife is bigger than me!" I don't say it out loud, but I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit to thinking it!

I've never had a single person apologize for how they treated me. Maybe they didn't realize they did it. I do know there are a few people I should apologize to for my behavior. If I ever run into them I will do it. I promise!

Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?

Today was Day 18 of Summer Vacation! I love it! I sat home most of the day and did...NOTHING!!! It felt great!

I ate leftover Genghis Grill for breakfast. Felt the need for a nap, wonderful! Ate a Lean Cuisine Spaghetti and Meatballs for lunch. Felt the need for a nap, AWESOME!

We got dressed and left for Southaven. We had dinner at Chili's. I got FREE chips and salsa thanks to foursquare! We ordered a new item from the menu and did NOT like it. It was just kinda sitting there on the table and the waitress asked. She said she didn't like it either and brought us another entree! She was so sweet.

After dinner we went to Home Depot. We were looking for a bracket and couldn't find one that matched. I headed for the garden stuff. I bought an aloe vera, cucumber, and squash plant. We'll see how they do, it may be too late to be planting, but I'll probably kill it anyway!

I'll be sure to take some new garden pictures soon! I did harvest some jalapeno peppers today. I also have several new baby tomatoes in the works :)

Today was another good lap-band day. I have not had a single day where I regret this surgery. I weighed this morning and saw 279. Granted, it was on the crazy scale and the next time I got on I saw 280. But still, a SEVEN! This time last year it had been years since I had seen a 2 in the hundreds place. I happy with the pace I'm losing weight.

I won't lie, I wish I could wake up in the morning and weigh 170, but that's not going to happen. I think I will appreciate it more for it having been a slower process.

Today's food:
Genghis Grill, spaghetti and meatballs, fruit/jello, babybel, chips & salsa, Texas cheese fries, chipotle chicken crispers, and corn on the cob

Taking Care of Business

Today was another LONG day! We drove to Little Rock and it rained on us the entire trip!

When we got there we found our destination and then went to eat. We ate at a restaurant named Doe's Eat Place. Apparently it was a favorite of Bill Clinton when he was Governor of Arkansas. I had three Hot Tamales, Chili, and a marinated salad. I did NOT enjoy the salad. I did enjoy the rest!

We go take care of our Business and get the results we wanted :) After we were done, we went to watch Bad Teacher. It is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. I laughed and recognized some people at work! Heads up, this movie is not for the easily offended!

After the movie we went to Genghis Grill. I know, I know we ate there last night, but that's what Blaine wanted. It was good. Always is. Brought home most of my bowl. I'll have it for lunch tomorrow!

I'm tired of riding in the car. It feels as if I've ridden across the country in the past week. I think I'm going to stay home tomorrow and not go near the car! But we'll see what happens...

Today's food:
Chicken Biscuit, Tamales & Chili, nachos & cheese, Genghis Bowl, and Cheetos.

No getting stuck today!!!

Just one of those days

Today was another busy day. But first thing, I had a tickle in my throat and kept gagging. I ate a couple of Triscuits and that seemed to fix it. We were up and out of the house before 10am! We were headed to Mississippi to take care of some business.

Before we got going we went by McDonald's. I got a McDouble. I took about three bites and had to have Blaine pull over for me to be sick! Ugghh!

We got to Hernando and went to Sonic for lunch. I ate 3 tater tots and two bites of my burger and I had to have Blaine pull over for me to be sick! This has been my worse day so far for being sick. I was leery of food for the rest of the afternoon. I did drink all of my Sonic cherry slush!

Finally, about 3pm, we stopped at McAlister's Deli. I ordered the Cheesy Potato Soup. Finally! Something I could eat that didn't make me want to toss my cookies! I also drank some sweet tea. This is the first time I've had REAL sweet tea in over six months.

We then headed to my cousin's house to help load some furniture. We took it to my aunt's house and unloaded it. (When I say "we" I mean Blaine and Terry Lee!)

After everything was loaded we went to Genghis Grill for dinner. We used the last of my $10 coupons. I ate about 1/3 of my bowl and brought the rest home. None of this made me sick either.

I don't know what was setting me off today. It may have been the bread, it may have been the tots, who knows! I hope I don't have a repeat tomorrow!

“Home is where you can scratch where it itches”

Today I stayed home. It felt good to just be here. The past few days have been fast and furious. Fun but busy. It felt good to just vegetate! I took a nap and read a couple of books.

Diary of a Mad Fat Girl by Stephanie McAfee was just the book for me. It's setting is in Mississippi not too far from Memphis. It reminded me a lot of my friend Lisa and I many years ago! If you are looking for a light, funny, romantic read and don't mind a little vulgar language, this could be the book for you! I got it free for my Kindle on Amazon.com!

Not a lot to report. I did weigh this morning.  I weighed 282. That's down 45 pounds (on my scales at home). I'm pleased with how things are going.

Today's food:
leftover fried squash, salad, 2 turkey hot dogs, cheetos, 2 hard tacos, pintos & cheese, and cucumber salad

“It ain't the heat; it's the humility.” Yogi Berra

Today was a long day. We left at 8:30 this morning and headed for Heber Springs. We stopped for deodorant! A must for a hot June day! How we both left the house with out it, I'll never figure out.

We stopped for lunch at the Bulldog Cafe. I love their onion rings and grilled cheese sandwiches! I was so excited I forgot to take a picture.

We finally made it to the funeral home. Their AC didn't seem to be working like it should. It was packed for the funeral. Blaine about got sick it was so hot. He was wearing a suit, tie, and long-sleeved shirt. We then drove to the cemetery.

I have to tell you at this point, my aunt asked me to take pictures of all the flowers and of my uncle's body in the casket. This is something my granny did too. It kinda weirded me out, but I expected it, that's why I brought my camera. I haven't downloaded the pictures yet, and I won't be posting them on here, I just wasn't ready to see them on my computer!

There were a bunch of guys out there wearing aprons. I finally figured out that they were Masons. I've never been to a funeral where the Masons participated. Honestly, it was kinda weird.

I got WAY too hot and thought I was going to pass out. It was stinkin' hot! I sat down and started feeling much better!

We finally started home. We stopped for dinner at Tadpole's. I had some good catfish and pickled green tomatoes...HEAVEN!

We finally got home about 9pm.

Today's food:
breakfast burrito, cheetos, 4 onion rings, grilled cheese, cheetos, cherry slush, catfish, pickled green tomatoes, and beef vegetable soup

Driving in Memphis

I had a great day with Ellen today! We started off by heading to the Peach Shed for fresh fruits and vegetables. Since my tomato plants aren't producing like I wanted, I've been buying their tomatoes. They are delicious!

We had chicken strips, salad, and green beans for lunch. We followed lunch up with a nice nap! I love naps!

We got up and got going and headed to Graceland. Ellen had been there before, so we just did a drive-by.
Graceland Gate
We drove through Central Gardens and looked at the pretty houses. Then headed to Corky's for some more BBQ! After dinner, we drove through the Cooper Young Area, Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, and then headed for the zoo and Overton Park. We went back down to the Mississippi River Greenbelt Park and watched the river roll by. Then we stopped for pictures of the bridge and the Pyramid.
Corky's BBQ Nachos

It was quite a day and we had lots of fun. I've really enjoyed this visit with Ellen!

Tomorrow is my uncle's funeral. It's going to be a long, sad day.

Today's food:
1/2 biscuit, tablespoon of Aunt Olivia's strawberry freezer jam, scrambled egg, chicken strip, green beans, salad, fat free Italian dressing, Corky's roll, 1/4 Corky's nachos, and 1/3 Corky's banana pudding

Pickled Green Beans and Okra

Today I was happy to welcome my friend, Ellen, to the R&B B&B! She drove all the way from New Orleans! I was supposed to be driving her to a wedding on Saturday. Instead, I'll be going to my Uncle Clyde's funeral.

Ellen has promised to take lots of pictures for me!

Ellen wanted some Memphis BBQ. I decided the quintessential place for Memphis BBQ was The Rendezvous. It's a Memphis landmark! It's down an alley and in a basement. You have to know where it is! We ordered RIBS!

After dinner we took Ellen for a ride around Memphis. We showed her the Peabody, Beale Street, Sun Records, FedEx Forum, Mississippi Greenbelt Park and ended the night with a slush from Sonic! I'm so glad she's here!

Ellen is such a sweetie! After I got home from New Orleans last week, I sent her a text and asked her to go to the grocery store and get me some pickled green beans. I so loved the one I tried at the Oceana Grill that was in my Virgin Mary! She found them and brought me some!!!
How awesome is she?? She even brought some pickled okra to keep it company!

Today's food:
Beef Vegetable Soup (I got stuck on the roast in the soup), Leftover Fried Squash and Zucchini, One Rib, Ham, Sausage, Cheese, and a small Cherry Slush.

I'm learning to stay away from long, stringy meat. I just have to remember all these lessons I'm learning!

Two Thumbs Up!

Today was my appointment at the Fat Doctor's office. I don't actually see the doctor anymore, I see the Nurse Practitioner. I really like her!

I told her about how many times I got 'sick' after the last fill. She got on to me and told me I should have called them. She told me that I've lost 49 pounds since I went for my consultation in November.

After talking with her about how I was eating and handling my food, she thought it would be best if I waited another month before having another fill. I'm glad. I just didn't feel ready for a fill. Maybe I will in a month.

On a sadder note, I got a phone call this morning from my cousin. She was letting me know that her dad, my uncle, passed away this morning. He's been in the nursing home and I knew he wasn't doing well. I just wasn't expecting this so soon.

Uncle Clyde had been suffering with Dementia/Alzheimer's for a long time. I know it has been really hard on him and his family. He's in a better place now and won't be suffering any more. Please pray for his family.

Today's food:
macaroni & tomatoes, white beans, 2 bites of meatloaf (blechh!), Vegetarian quesadilla, cheese dip, salsa, chips, and fried squash & zucchini YUM!

“Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.” - Mark Twain

Tonight was Trivia Night at the Flying Saucer. We went and met my niece's friend Kelly. She was so sweet! Beautiful inside and out. I hope she had as good a time as we did!

Kelly is new to the area. We wanted to show her some of the cool stuff downtown. We started by going on top of the Peabody Hotel. It's hard to find a better view downtown! We went and sat in the lobby for a few minutes and then we started walking. We went by Autozone park and headed for Beale Street.

We walked from Rum Boogie to Blues City Cafe. We'll go back down there again, when it's not a work night for Kelly! We walked back to the parking garage and saw Kelly off.

We headed to the Mississippi River Greenbelt Park. It was a gorgeous night. The wind was blowing and it was about 75 degrees. We couldn't have asked for a nicer night! There was a guy out there flying a four string kite with lights on it. It was super cool to watch!

We finally started on our way home. We drove by the Pyramid and turned onto Riverside Drive. We drove by the park down there and then got on the old bridge. A little detour by Sonic and a tour around town and we landed back at home! What a great day!

Tomorrow is a visit to the lap-band doctor!

Dancing in Kroger

Blaine has been after me to get the coupons clipped. He wants to go to Kroger and get some mustard and ranch dressing and he knows there are coupons for both! I finally got motivated (ie. tired of him asking) and cut and sorted all the coupons.

I have a new binder, never found my Glee binder full of coupons. Still really sad about that! The new binder is somewhat empty, but it will fill back up!

Finally we got in the car and headed for the store. Blaine goes with me almost every time I go. We've discovered I spend less money and he's sure to get food he likes.

I have to give you a little back ground. Blaine loves music. He often grabs me, when he hears a song he likes, and dances with me in the aisle. I love it! Today "Rock the Casbah" was playing. There we were in the cracker/cookie aisle dancing and I hear, *cough*cough*! I look and it's my friend Stacy's mom Frances! I just giggled, talked to her and then finished our shopping.

I own a book Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly. I will buy a book strictly for its title. I enjoyed this book. It was a good little southern romantical book! Maybe I should write a book "Kicking it at Kroger!"

I saved about $32 dollars with my coupons. Not bad, that's a meal out!

Tonight we are going to the Flying Saucer to play trivia. Tomorrow, we are going for my next "fill" appointment.

Today's food (so far):
bologna, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cucumber, salad dressing, pomegranate blueberry juice, and chipotle pepper wheat thin stix

Fried Bologna, Purple Onion, Tomato, and Miracle Whip

Day 11 of Summer Vacation has been a great day! We started off by going to Lehi. It's a wide spot in the road off of Interstate 40 before you get to West Memphis. They have a place called The Peach Shed. They sell all kinds fruits and vegetables. We bought squash, zucchini, tomatoes, and a cantaloupe.

We went to Red Lobster for a late lunch. I had a Garden Salad, cup of New England Clam Chowder, and three Coconut Shrimp. I got the rest to-go including the brownie a la mode! Since we had so much food in the car, we headed back to the house.

I kept thinking about how much I wanted a thick slice of bologna with some of the tomatoes we'd bought. We stopped at the store. We bought a chunk of bologna, a purple onion, and some lettuce.

After all the excitement, I felt the need for a nap! When I woke up I sliced a piece of bologna and fried it in the pan. While it was cooking, I sliced the tomato and purple onion. White bread with Miracle Whip with all the stuff in between, I was in heaven! I just can't think of what would have tasted better!

What's your favorite sandwich? My friend Lisa likes peanut butter, tomato, and mayo. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own!

Today's food: Cheetos, garden salad, clam chowder, coconut shrimp, brownie a la mode, fried bologna goodness, and cantaloupe.

I love summer!

“Fame and riches are fleeting. Stupidity is eternal” - Don Williams, Jr.

We went to the auditions for Wheel of Fortune today! Don't we look excited? It's stinkin' hot outside! I'm scared of what August will be like!
Wouldn't you love to drive this down the interstate?

I never got up on that stage, but I had fun!
We met our friend Shirey and her mom there. Although none of our names were drawn, we had a good time! There is still a chance to be called.
Shirey. Look at all the folks behind her!
While we were there, a lady was called on stage that is the sister of a woman I work with at school!
There were quite a few "characters" at the auditions! One couple sitting near us was dressed in matching seersucker suits! Oh my, if Blaine and I ever do that, please smack us!
Fame may not be in my future, but that won't stop me from trying to be on a game show!

Today's food:
hot dogs (no buns), baked spaghetti, southwestern egg rolls, side salad, virgin strawberry daiquiri, and lots of water! So far, so good! No getting stuck!

~Robin

Vanna, turn me a letter!

Today we are meeting Shirey and her mom at the DeSoto Civic Center to tryout for WHEEL OF FORTUNE! It's totally luck of the draw to get chosen. We're going to give it the "old college try!"

I'll be sure to take pictures and post again tonight!

This morning I weighed and it read 279! That's the first time I've seen a 7 in the tens place! I weighed again and got 280 and 281, So I'm going with the 280 for today. That's 47 pounds lost!

06/19/2011
01/06/2011

My next appointment is Wednesday. I don't know if I'm ready for a fill, but I won't be canceling this appointment. Maybe they'll just add one cc. I'll keep you updated!

New Orleans Survived!

We had a great time!!! This may become an annual event! But warning, this is a long post.

Tuesday night, after blogging, I packed my bags and went to bed. I looked at the ceiling for HOURS. I was so excited, I couldn't get to sleep! Finally, the alarm rang at 5:00AM! At 5:30 I started texting the girls and pick ups began.

Sara called and the train was running a little late. We went to the truck stop and bought subs and Zuzu's (this is a new word for snacks I picked up from Kissy.) Sara checked on the train again and it was running even later. We went to McDonald's for breakfast.

We get to the train station. I went to get our tickets and we waited. We didn't have to wait very long and it was time to board the train.
Sara got each of us a Vera Bradley wrist bag. LOVE IT! Thanks Sara!

I love riding the train. It's a great way to get someplace. You don't have to drive. They have a restaurant and bar. You can sleep all you want. There are plenty of bathrooms. There is space to stretch out and walk around. I will admit, after 8+ hours on the train, I was very ready to get off and be on stable ground!

We arrived at the hotel, The Inn on Bourbon. Excellent location and very nice. We booked it through Hotwire. One of those, you don't know where you're staying until after you pay deals. It was right on Bourbon Street, within walking distance of almost every place we wanted to go!
This is the view from our hotel room. Very European looking!
Our first night, we stayed on Bourbon Street and went to Pat O'Brien's. We weren't too impressed with the food, but the girls loved the Hurricanes! I didn't have anything to drink, I'm still a little leery of upsetting my stomach.
Sara and Kissy at Pat O'Briens
We then wandered up and down the street. There's plenty to see! I would say that it definitely is NOT a place to bring children. There are parents who don't agree with me. We saw people with kids on the street after 11pm! All I could do was stare and shake my head!

After lots of looking, frozen drinks (I had one) and a late night pizza run, we headed back to the hotel. The front desk was kind enough to let us hang out at the pool, even though it was supposed to be closed. We relaxed on the loungers, ate pizza, and had deep, thoughtful conversation, hah!

We slept good! I was awake at 7:30! I don't know what was wrong with me, but I was up and at 'em. I read my Kindle while waiting for the others to wake up.

When everybody was up and ready, we headed out. Cafe Fleur de Lis was our first stop. Sara had coupons that got us $20 off of our meal! I had a Cajun Burger. Bless my soul is was hot! I loved every spicy bite!
St. Louis Cathedral

We started walking and looking at shops. We finally found a skinny girl store for Jami that had lots of cute skinny girl clothes.

Lunch was Royal Street Deli. I had an awesome Grilled Cheese with Bacon and Tomato! I love the food in New Orleans! More shopping, then back to the room for a short nap!

Emeril's was our dinner destination. When we first started talking about the New Orleans trip, Kissy's request was that we eat at one of Emeril's restaurants. We had reservations for 6:30pm.
Getting Ready
Outside the restaurant

Bread, cornbread mmm
Pork Chop and Sweet Potatoes
Watermelon Midori, Strawberry Banana, Cantaloupe Sorbet
Shrimp Louis Salad

I had a Shrimp Louis Salad, Pork Chop, and Sorbet. We enjoyed our time and the good service there. Back to Bourbon St. for more entertainment! We stopped at the hotel to change clothes and then headed back out. We stayed out even later and had even more fun! Once again, we ended our night with pizza by the pool!
Jami and Kissy
Sara and Robin

I slept like a rock. We got ready and headed to the Oceania Grill for Breakfast. I had a Bloody Mary with no alcohol (The drink had a PICKLED GREEN BEAN in it! I love it. I want to buy some!) and a Cajun Omelet.  It had onions, mushrooms and Tasso Ham. It was wonderful!

Virgin Mary
Cajun Omelet

Sadly, it was time to head back to the hotel. We got our stuff together, loaded up a taxi, and headed for the train station. I finally got home a little after 11pm. I was so happy to see Blaine and to be home!

Now for the lap-band details. I did NOT eat all the food. I did eat more than normal. I only got stuck once and it wasn't bad. I did drink some alcohol and none of it made me sick, but I didn't have more than two drinks at one sitting.  I weighed this morning and I hadn't gained any weight.  I was pleased with how I did with my band on this trip.

Lots of details were left out, because for somethings What Happens in New Orleans, stays in New Orleans!

New Orleans, Watch out!

This time tomorrow I anticipate being on Bourbon Street with the girls!

We are taking the train and staying at the Inn on Bourbon. This is the first time I've gone on a trip, that wasn't paid for by school, without Blaine!

I'm sure to have an interesting post on Saturday. I am not taking the computer, so I won't be blogging for a few days.

Today's food:
a whole cantaloupe, a Lenny's Club Sub, pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, crescent roll, and green beans.

I got stuck twice within ten minutes! I do believe it was the pork. It was like every time I took two bites, I would get stuck. I've had everything else and didn't have any problems. I am really starting to get hungry and eat more than I'm used to eating. I can tell it is definitely time for a fill. Hopefully they won't do another 3ccs and will just do 1 or 2.

"Food is an important part of a balanced diet" - Fran Leibowitz

Day 6 of Summer Vacation has been GREAT! I slept late, had salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, went to visit Blaine's parents, bought salad fixins, and got a good report from the doctor!

We started off the day by visiting Blaine's parents. They told us that tomatoes were on sale for $1 a pound at the Marion Market Place. We headed over there and bought all the stuff to make a salad. While we were eating our salads I noticed a friend had posted something about the weather on facebook.

I started checking the radar and Blaine looked outside. Next thing, Blaine was hollering for me to come downstairs! We could see stuff blowing around, the neighbors shingles coming off, and our trash can blowing across the street! The storm finally blew over and things calmed down. It wasn't nearly as scary as the storm in April!

I received a phone call from the doctor's office. We went last week for blood work and a check up. They said that ALL my numbers were good! She told me all the numbers, but I didn't write them down, I was sooooo excited! The last time they checked my blood, there wasn't much that was good, 18 months later, woohoo!!!

I cooked some hamburger meat and used my new Mix'n'Chop from Pampered Chef. Mixed in some taco seasoning and had myself a taco salad. I'm having salad for every meal today. I may have more tacos tomorrow!

I didn't weigh yesterday, since we weren't home. I weighed this morning and the scales said 281. That's 46 pounds so far. I had set a goal to weigh 275 by the time I went to New Orleans, but I don't believe I'm going to make it. I don't feel bad about it, I still have other goals to achieve and time to do it :) My next goal was 265 by the time school starts back. That's only 16 pounds, I'm going to try and make it!

Today's food: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, ham, chicken, taco meat, tortillas, Frito's, salsa, ranch, thousand island. I LOVE SALAD AND TACOS!

Sometimes you just need some RED kool-aid. I love the sugar free versions I've found. I hardly miss sodas at all! I do crave a Mt. Dew occasionally, but not often. I have yet to have a day where I've regretted having my lap-band surgery.
