Why Don't You Fill Me Up, Buttercup

Today was my appointment with the Nurse Practitioner. I have lost 54 pounds! The first picture is the one they took at the doctor's office and I took a picture of it today. Blaine took the second picture this afternoon. I can definitely tell a difference.

She added .5cc to my band. That brings me to a total of 9ccs in a 14cc band.

I'm pleased. I haven't gained weight. I need to lose more and it will happen!

Tonight we went and played trivia with Shirey and Todd. We had fun and won 2nd place! It's always more fun when we win! Isn't that true about life?

Today Kelly's Korner is having a Crockpotalooza! Here's my contribution:

Crockpot Beef Vegetable Soup
Small pot roast
1 big bottle of V8
1 can Homestyle Veg-all
1 bag mini-carrots
1 chopped onion (or use the frozen chopped onion from Kroger!)
1 package Bear Creek Minestrone Soup Mix

Put everything but the soup starter in the crockpot. Cook on Low for 8-10 hours. 45 minutes before you're ready to eat, dump in the soup mix. (This keeps the noodles from going mushy!)

Why I Blog

When I first began this blog I had no direction or purpose. I wrote one post in October 2009 and then it languished for almost a year. I started posting random pictures I'd taken and wrote about different things.

After finally deciding to have lap-band surgery I had a direction for my blog. I wanted to document what I was going through and track my weight loss. It's become so much more than that.

Writing this has given me an outlet for my feelings and things that happen to me. I love being able to look back at pictures of me in January and see how much my face has changed.

It has also forced me to stay honest with myself. I also have people holding me accountable for my actions and not letting me "excuse" myself for not doing the right thing.

It also allows me to try and share the funny things that happen in my life, at least I think they're funny!

Thanks for being a blog reader. Feel free to become a follower :o) Please leave comments, I love them.

Tomorrow is my appointment with the Nurse Practitioner for my band. I know that I haven't lost any weight since my last checkup. I hope that she will be tightening my band. I know I'll have to be honest about my lack of exercise and bad food choices. I'm not perfect, but I am so much better than where I was 12 months ago! I will take that "W"!

Today's food:
Gigi lemon cupcake with most of the icing removed
Salad with tomatoes, pastrami, onions, and ranch
Cucumber salad
five crackers with cheese
1/2 cup refried beans with pico
Fajita chicken and onions 1/2 cup
5 chips and salsa
1 cup chicken spaghetti

"Snap out of it!" (Cher in Moonstruck)

I have got to snap out of it! I need to snap out of lots of things.

I need to quit letting people and their "problems" get me down.
I need to start exercising on a more regular basis.
I need more energy. Right now I feel tired all the time.
I want motivation. Not much is motivating me to do much lately.
I need the things I can't change to quit bothering me so much.
I want to be a happier, more optimistic person.
I want to be strong and stop eating and drinking the things I shouldn't.
I want to be a good friend, but stop allowing people to take advantage of me.
I don't want to feel guilty when I say no.

What things would you like to change in your life?

Pardon Me While I Rant on...

Going to the Movies.

I believe that there should be rules about watching a movie in public:

1. Get there before the actual movie starts. I understand missing the commercials and the previews. But do you understand how frustrated I get when you walk in front of me right as the action is starting? Especially if there are words on the screen or people are speaking. I don't want to miss stuff that may keep me from staying confused for the next 90+ minutes

2. Children under the age of 6 should not be allowed in PG movies that aren't marketed to children. I don't want to hear them yammering all through the movie. They don't want to see this movie and the only reason they are here is because their parents can't afford a sitter and/or have separation anxiety.

3. BABIES, parents should have to pay $40 for a baby to come in the movie. Or they can personally poll the audience and get every single persons OK for their baby to be in the movie.

4. I understand the need for a little conversation in the movie. Sometimes you blink, you don't understand what you just saw, or you're just flat out confused. Other than that, please be quiet.

5. If your phone rings, leave. Don't have your conversation while I'm trying to watch/listen. Also, please put your phone on vibrate. I don't want to hear your "Stairway to Heaven" ring tone!

6. Please keep your feet off the back of my seat. I will do the same if you are in front of me.

7. If you're gonna be making out during the movie, please sit on the back row.

What are your movie peeves? We pay too much for a movie ticket to have that experience ruined.

I never set out to be weird. It was always the other people who called me weird. Frank Zappa

Today we went to the zoo. I might be a bit partial, but I believe that Memphis has one of the coolest zoos around!
By the carousel are these groovy chairs. You put in a quarter and it shakes your whole body. Blaine always makes sure to put a couple of quarters in his pocket for me!

I thought the lily pads and their flowers were pretty.

The Meerkats are a favorite of mine.

The Polar Bear house is awesome. Not only is it wonderfully air conditioned, it also provides a great view both above and below the water.

This lovely view is in the China exhibit. We are lucky to have two pandas.

Mostly they just look cute and eat bamboo.
I'm also excited to report that I received my new Entertainment books in the mail. They have tons of coupons. My favorite are the monthly coupons to Kroger for $5 off. These books definitely pay for themselves!

I weighed this morning, 275. I'm not gaining. I'm not losing. I'm ready for my appointment on Wednesday. Hopefully she'll add a little more to my band :)

Today's food:
Nachos, salad, baked squash, okra, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, leftover meatloaf :)

Pioneer Woman's Meatloaf

I'm ready to have more energy. I just feel exhausted all the time. I guess I'm still acclimating from my "Summer State of Mind" to my "Back to Earning a Living Mind."

After sending Blaine to Wal-Mart to get me a broiler pan. I finally made Pioneer Woman's Meatloaf.
I had to show Blaine what a Broiler pan looked like before he went to the store. He did an awesome job and got just what I needed!
Thank goodness for the PW's cooking for dummies instructions. I set up the iPad and scrolled with my elbow while I cooked. This would also be awesome for following directions when doing a science experiment too.
I donned my apron and did my best Betty Crocker imitation!

I try to have a little fun while channeling my inner Betty.
Here's my final product. It was okay, but it still wasn't my momma's. Thanks to my wonderful sister. She says next time we visit she'll make me Mom's meatloaf. I may video her!
While I was peeling potatoes to mash, I decided to peel them all. I whipped up a batch of potato soup. Blaine loved it! It's great comfort food.
I have to add that I wasn't in love with this meatloaf. It was good. Just not what I was wanting.

The Pioneer Woman's cooking show aired today on Food Network.  We both watched and now Blaine is wanting Chicken Fried Steak. We'll see.

I have a fill for my lap-band scheduled this Wednesday. I'm ready! That should seriously curtail my desire to cook. I'll be wanting some soup!!!

Working for the Weekend

I am so excited that tomorrow is Friday! I have gotten a lot accomplished this week at work. Also, we didn't go out to eat at all!!! Major accomplishment for us.

My next cooking experiment will be The Pioneer Woman's Meatloaf. I'm willing to try it. I miss my momma's meatloaf. All I remember is that she made it with oatmeal and lots of ketchup. I know this recipe doesn't have oatmeal, but I'm willing to step outside my box AND there are NO BELL PEPPERS!!!!

I've been using an iPad recently. It was AMAZING to use while cooking! The Pioneer Woman has recipes for dummies. Her recipes are detailed and have pictures for each step. I love that!

I've been getting all "wifey" lately and trying not to feed him everything out of a box or bag. He does seem very appreciative of my efforts :-)

I don't know what we're going to do this weekend, but we're going to enjoy being together and do lots of relaxing!

Remember to show some bloggy love!

Partying is such sweet sorrow. ~ Robert Byrne

The lasagna was good. I don't know if it was the best lasagna EVER but it was tasty.

After school we went to get Blaine's car. The shop seems to think he's having a "chip issue" between the key and the car. HUH? We're going to have to go to the dealership and ask them to reprogram the keys and the car. Ughh! this is a pain.

I stopped by the store and bought some butter lettuce. It was okay, better than romaine, but not crispy enough like iceberg. The only reason I don't like romaine is the tough stalk part in the middle. It doesn't chew very well.

When I got home I put the lasagna in the oven. I made an awesome looking salad. It had lots of tomatoes (some that I grew), cucumbers (I grew them all!), sliced olives, shredded cheese, and bacon bits. I loved it!

I invited a couple of girls from work over. Jami was able to come. I had a great time visiting with her!
Blaine is so excited that we're having a dinner party :)
Doesn't this lasagna look yummy?!?!?!?

Slow cooked green beans with onions and bacon bits. YUMMY!

Jami's plate
The good thing about having company over is that it motivates me to clean up around the house. I guess I found my "motivation to go!" Next time I need to get the house cleaned up, I'll invite somebody over for dinner!

Today I got to 20,000 hits! Thanks for reading my blog!

Busy, Busy Bee

Another productive day! I (along with some help) got lots of work done today. By the time we stopped, I was sweating and half my face was red!

To follow it up, when I got home, I started cleaning and cooking. I should sleep well tonight!

I marinated two steaks last night in marinade and cooked them for dinner. While Blaine was outside working on the yard, I was in the kitchen making The Pioneer Woman's Best Lasagna Ever! I will put in the oven tomorrow when we get home.

I've invited a couple of girls from work over to share in my huge lasagna! I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Not a bad lap-band day! I'm feeling ready for my next fill! The last time I was there I had some concerns about being constantly hoarse. She was concerned and told me to start taking Pepcid at night.

I think I've figured out what is wrong. For years, I've taken my daily meds at night before going to bed. I've been having an awful time with reflux, but only at bedtime. I do believe this has been caused by my choice of pill-poppin' time! I'm going to conduct a little experiment and move PPT to earlier in the evening and see if this helps!

Today's food:
Gravy
Fried Okra (I know, I know, don't lecture!)
Cowboy Rice
Starbursts (I gave the last of them away!)
T-Bone
Green beans
Lasagna meat mixture
Chex mix 1/2 cup

I've got my EYE on you!

Not a bad day! I got plenty of things crossed off of my to-do list at work and I'm planning on crossing more off tomorrow!

I did well on the food front, with the exception of the Starbursts, they were so good!

Several people kept asking me what was wrong with my eye. I don't know. I think it may be part of the Horner's syndrome. It is my "bad/lazy" eye.

Here's a pic, don't look if eye balls gross you out!
Ewww, I know, it's gross.

Today's food:
Beef vegetable soup
salad with a whole tomato
four ritz crackers and some cheesy stuff
starbursts
catfish filet
pork tenderloin slice
cornbread
raspberry pushup pop
ham

I did get stuck twice today. I had been doing so well and then BAM! twice in one day. The ham and the tenderloin were the culprits. Maybe I should avoid pork?

Where can I get an order of Motivation to go?

I just haven't been motivated to do much of anything lately. I'm blaming the beginning of school. Once I get used to my routine again, I plan on doing much better!

I did work on my coupons yesterday. I sat and cut and organized and put them in my binder for three solid hours! Today we went to Kroger. After they scanned my Kroger card the total was $124.08. After all my coupons were scanned, the total was $81.86. I was happy!

Yesterday I had planned on posting a photo journal of everything I ate. I took the pictures, I just couldn't get motivated to blog. I'm going to do it one day.

My goal this week is to cook at home every night. No eating out until Friday. We both do better when we eat at home.

Show the bloggy love! I promise to be a better blogger :)

My lap-band is great. I'm doing much better with quantities and stopping before I get sick.
Today's food:
Gravy & Small piece of country ham
Spaghetti
1/2 cup chili
Green Beans & Carrots
Cheese Quesadilla
2 chicken nuggets
Broccoli w/Cheese sauce
Cucumber & Ranch
Small slice Pork Tenderloin with fat removed

I've got all the money I'll ever need, if I die by four o'clock. - Henny Youngman

I have not been feeling particularly motivated to blog lately. I'm blaming the first week of school!

We're so tired most of the time when we get home, we eat, watch tv, and go to bed. Eventually, we'll build up our tolerance to the energy of work and get back to our regular schedule.

This morning we had the joy of getting in the car, starting it and having it die. It would start fine, it just wouldn't idle.

We hopped in the other car and headed to work. When we got home, Blaine tried cranking it and putting it in the gear. NOTHING! Now it won't even start. Arghhh!!! Hopefully we'll be able to get it towed and fixed. This will make the THIRD time since June. It is very frustrating.

We want this car to go another 50,000 miles and it's not cooperating. How dare it! We feed it gas and oil, keep it clean, give it a nice, clean garage to sleep in and it does us like this! We are not amused.

So, instead of wallowing in pity, we headed to Southaven for dinner. I had a salad and grilled vegetables. Yummy. I had a part of a chicken strip (about an inch) and part of a fish fillet (about two inches.)

After dinner we went to Sam's club. OMG I had a bunch of stuff to buy. I'm ready for us to start getting paychecks again! This business of getting all our summer checks at once and no money again until September gets old!

My phone has been acting wonky and I had to remove foursqure. I'm very sad, but it was making using my Torch almost impossible. I hope they get the bugs fixed soon!

On the lap-band front, I have been doing much better with my portion control and having that stuck feeling so often. My weight is still 276.

~Robin

Today's food:
1/3 breakfast burrito filling (no tortilla, yuck)
1 cup potato soup
1/2 cup broccoli salad (raw broccoli is not my friend)
cheetos (I know, Bad Robin! Bad!)
1/2 cup spaghetti with meat sauce
1 oz chocolate (moderation, 4 Hershey eggs instead of half the bag!)
4 ritz crackers with cheese
House salad with 1 T ranch
grilled zucchini, mushrooms, and onions
1/4 of a chicken strip
1/4 of a catfish fillet (yes it was fried)
tartar sauce (i don't know how much, but not a lot)
Broccoli Cheese soup
1/2 slice pork tenderloin (all the fat removed)

Dear Heavens, what a list. Where did it all go? Could be that it is time for a fill. I get hungry every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. By the time we got home today I felt almost weak I was so hungry. My tummy was making noises and wanting to know where the food was.

Bless Your Heart

I've been watching a show called "You Don't Know Dixie." I'm loving it. It cracked me up about the whole "Bless his heart." I remember the first couple years I taught saying that a lot. My friend, who shall remain nameless, would say "Bless their heart and not in the JL (initials also changed) way." That was her way of saying, poor thing is just unlucky and not stupid. It still cracks me up.

I use the following words and phrases on an almost daily basis:
buggy (what you put your groceries in), fixin' to (what I'm about to do), sweetie, honey, fetch, piddle, ain't, jabber, and a whole mess of others I can't think of right now.

Part of living in The South is constant exposure to fried foods and sweet tea (God Bless America!) Fried food just tastes better, I swear it does. I do get fried food. I also mix in a little grilled, baked, and boiled food. It just doesn't taste as good.

Let's talk about butter and bacon grease. What doesn't taste better when either one is added in? Lord have mercy. It's a wonder every single person in The South isn't obese! Paula Deen is a hero down here!

I am working on making changes in my eating habits. But they are gradual changes. Yes, I quit smoking cold turkey. But I can't quit food. It's really difficult to not eat the yummy stuff when that's what others are eating. I am not that strong. If my will power were stronger, I wouldn't be in the situation.

I know that I am completely responsible for the condition of my health. Yes, genetics contributed, but I am responsible.

My main goal is to work on portion control and exercising. The lap-band is helping with the amount I eat. Now I just have to work on me choosing the right foods and getting up off of my butt.

I'm willing to bet that an overweight person knows more about the mechanics and the science behind dieting and losing weight than your average Joe.

We're pros at it. I've been on more diets and read more books and articles than you could ever imagine. I know about vitamins, nutrients, calories, the food pyramid (or whatever it's being called now), exercise, mental attacks. That doesn't mean I'm good about applying it or being perserverant.

I am my worst enemy. But, I have hope and I am getting there. The things that are wrong with my eating and exercising habits won't be changed overnight. It is a gradual process.

I have cut out 95% of sugar in what I drink. Yes,  I cave occasionally and have an Icee, Mt. Dew, or Lemonade. Mostly, I am drinking water and sugar free Hawaiian Punch and sugar free Peach Tea. I do eat fried foods and cook with butter and bacon grease, but not every day. I'm also eating tons more salad, grilled/baked fish, and soups. Lean Cuisine is my friend.

Over the past 6 months I have lost over 50 pounds. Yes, the band is responsible, but not entirely. I have to "work" with it or it won't do its "job." On a side note, my BMI has dropped enough that I have gone from Morbidly Obese, to just plain ol' Obese, woohoo!

I love constructive criticism. I need to be called on what I am doing wrong.

But, it's kinda like when I lose my keys and Blaine tells me, "If you'd just put them where they belong, you wouldn't lose them." ARGHHHH I KNOW THAT! It still doesn't help me find my keys! I am a creature of habit and breaking some habits are harder than others.

Thank you for each and every comment!

Keep showing the bloggy love!

p.s. I found another dadgum caterpillar. I'm going to have to buy the 'serious' bug stuff!

p.p.s. we went the Redbirds game tonight. I had a salad wedge, some Pork BBQ nachos from the Rendezvous, and half of a wild cherry Icee. Before my band I would have eaten all of the nachos, all of the Icee, a full entree, and who knows what else.

I'm Buggin!

Had a almost great day. It was very close to being great!
After school we went home, changed clothes, and headed to Gus's for dinner.
This is the best spicy fried chicken I have ever eaten! Our bill was less than $20 (before tip) for two plates and two drinks. If you've never eaten here and you're in the Memphis area, you should definitely try it!
After dinner we headed to the Mississippi River Greenbelt Park and watched the river roll by!

A trip to Wal-Mart was necessary. I needed ammunition for my war I'm currently waging!!!!

I found these little buggers in my tomato plant today. I was NOT AMUSED!!! I pulled them off and then started spraying. While I was spraying I found one more!
I sprayed it good! It really irritates me that none of them were on the ugly tomato plant. They all gathered on the pretty one that has FOUR tomatoes now!!
I'll be looking at my plants much more closely now. I'm on a mission. I also found a bunch more cucumbers and another squash today. The plants are liking this weather much better!!!

I am the problem with my lap-band. I have to get more motivated. I have been doing things I know I shouldn't. I have been drinking soda, sweet tea, and eating potato chips. None of these things are making me stuck.

I find myself gravitating to things I know I shouldn't be eating. It's a mental thing and nothing will fix this but me changing how I act and think.

The reason my weight loss has been at a stand still is because I am not exercising and I'm not making good food choices. Using www.loseit.com will make me acknowledge exactly what I am eating.

It's not that I'm going to try and do better, it is I will do better.

p.s.
It is Elvis week in Memphis. I got three of these magazines for my Elvis loving family members. Thanks to Blaine for driving around until we found them!

Did you miss me?

I haven't gone this long without posting since January. I'll just post some pictures and tell you what was going on :)
I picked up my latest piece from Seize the Clay. I'm pretty proud of it. I have a feeling one of our relatives will be receiving this for Christmas!
Now that the heat has subsided, my pot garden is really thriving! I went out tonight and counted FOUR squash, FOUR cucumbers, and THREE tomatoes!!! I hope they all survive.
We went to visit my family this weekend. As we were driving along, we spotted a calf out of the fence. We pulled right next to it. I tried to take a picture. My phone has the world's brightest flash and scared the calf. This is a picture of nothing but the blur!
My cousins, The Freelands, sang a few songs at church. Once I figure out how to download the videos from my phone I'll post them!
It was Homecoming at the church where Blaine and I were married. My brother, Mark, was the guest preacher! We were able to hear him bring the message and visit with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and cutie pie grandson!
I was super excited about the potluck following the service! My cousin, Peggy, made her coconut cream pie! I skipped the lunch line and headed straight for the desserts! I had to insure that I got at least a little piece!
I took my pie into the sanctuary with me while I was visiting with my family and my cutie-pie great nephews! What I didn't realize is that my dad had gotten hold of my pie and ate half the meringue off!!!! Seriously? My family knows how crazy I am about this pie. He ate it off, no hands, no fork, just put his mouth on my pie and ate the fluffy stuff! Don't think this stopped me from eating the yummy goodness in the middle!
I love fellowship dinners! My sister, she's awesome, made Mexican Chicken! Oh My heavens I was giddy! This is my plate! I didn't eat all the ham. I did eat everything else! I love cucumbers and tomatoes, almost as much as I love Mexican Chicken!!!
School is back in session and I'm going to start using www.loseit.com again. It helps me realize how many calories I'm consuming. I have a lap-band appointment the 31st. Hopefully, she'll tighten it a wee bit more. I've reached a plateau. I'm going to have to start making wiser decisions about what I'm drinking and eating. The only way this band is going to work is if I'm working with it!

Today was good up until the very end. It really bothers me that I allow people to hurt my feelings like I do. I know I may come across as brash and tough sometimes, but I'm extremely tender-hearted and a big ol' bawl baby.

I'd rather be sensitive, than harsh, uncaring, and angry. I truly try to cherish the friends I have. I understand about having bad days, but some actions and tones just aren't necessary. If I have ever made you feel confused and hurt. I'm sorry. Truly.

~Robin
