Meet Ione and Mo!

Blaine surprised me today and told me he wanted to take me to the apple store and buy me my very own iPad 2!!! I was super excited. My birthday is next week and this is my birthday present. I'm so glad I got to go ahead and open it!!!!

I got the white iPad 2 wi-fi with 16G of memory AND the pink smart cover!!! I also sprung for the Apple Care. It is definitely worth the extra bucks!
This looks kinda purple on my screen, but honestly, it's hot pink! There was a lady at the apple store that had a hello kitty cover. I decided pink was enough for me :) I've named her Ione, she's Fiona's (my MacBook) little sister. Do you name inanimate objects?

Now, I'd like to introduce you to my friend Mo.
He's a comedian and has a new website, Slap the Stupid. If you are easily offended, don't click. If you are slightly to extremely twisted, feel free to click away!!!!

I don't know what happened to the rest of this pic, but at least his face made it! If you ever get the chance to see Mo perform live GO!

(I was not compensated for this endorsement, but if Mo wants to send me a t-shirt, I wear a XXL!)

Thanks for all the bloggy love!

Rest In Pieces

Don't be mislead by the smile on my face. It is a very sad day at my house. I was cooking  dinner, broccoli with cheese sauce, creamed spinach, green beans, and some fish fillets. I had everything cooking and put the fish on my Pampered Chef Bar Pan. I'd like to note that I have cooked this same brand of fish on this pan before.

I had everything cooking and decided to sit on the couch and read my Kindle for five minutes. I heard a weird 'breaking' sound. I think that something has fallen, which often happens, or is boiling over, which often happens. But NO! I look in the oven and discover this:
This was taken as soon as I found it. What the heck! My Pampered Chef Large Bar Pan Cooking Stone had cracked right between two pieces of fish. I'm am so sad :(

Thank goodness I have a new pizza stone, from when I had my party in May. It isn't seasoned as well but it will be eventually. Probably about the time that my three year warranty runs out. I have a sneaking suspicion that my bar pan was over three years old.

I am a big fan of Pampered Chef, but I have a feeling I'm going to try the Paula Deen stone that supposed to be a much lower price!

I'll keep you updated on my replacement.

Oh, What a Night!

I'm super excited! I don't want to come across as cocky or obnoxious, but we won again!

We won first place at trivia tonight. I wish you could hear Blaine and me talking to each other. He's constantly thinking of the ways that everybody else is going to beat us. I'm trying to plan a scenario where we at least get third place. We either know the answer or anguish over them. When we absolutely don't know, we just guess. And heaven help us when each thinks our answer is right and they are not the same answer! I do the wifely thing and give in, because if I put my answer and he's right.....

We have fun spending time with each other that doesn't involve sitting in our recliners and watching television. I know, and certainly don't think, that we will even place in the money every week. But I do have to say, winning feels awesome! I just want to dance around and have everybody feel as happy as I do in that moment!

The past couple of days have been really enjoyable at work. I enjoy my job and most of the people with whom I work. I just don't understand how people who appear to hate everything about their job are able to go there everyday and maintain their sanity. And please for the love of little green apples, if you hate being in education GET OUT!

We went to a new trivia place tonight. Had a great time. Didn't win anything, but we did come in 4th place!

Not bad. We will persevere!

I think we're going to play at the dog track tomorrow night. We have fun and sometimes we go home with cashola!

Does your train of thought have a caboose?

I was going to post a blog with a pic of me, chicken veggie quesadillas, and cheese shrimp and grits.

Something is wrong and I can't get any of my pictures to load. It's very annoying. It keeps saying "server rejected" grrr!

We watched Killer Elite today. All I'll say is this, Blaine is definitely going to see the remake of Footloose with me now!

We also had lunch at Bahama Breeze, it was so good. I just couldn't eat much.

While we were in Sam's Club, Blaine noticed the weather on one of the tvs. Whoa, big storm system moving through the area! We thought about hiding out at my aunt's house, but decided to head on home. Loads of lightning, rain, and wind. But nothing too bad at our house or on the road.

I made pizza when we got home and we were in for the rest of the night.

Not exciting, but I enjoy any day I get to spend with Blaine :)

A good man might be hard to find, but a good hairdresser is next to impossible.

I was thrilled to get to visit my friend Jen today! She's been my friend for a long time. She's been doing my hair since she began going to beauty school. I love going to get my hair done because I get to hang out with my friend. And we love to catch up on all the people we know!

First and foremost, she is my my friend. I wish we lived closer to each other.

Don't we look like we're having a blast? I had my hair colored, my eyebrows and face waxed, and my hair cut and styled! I was going to a family birthday party for lunch so Jen worked extra hard!
I was very pleased! After the Family Birthday Lunch. My sister-in-law had made scratch Chicken and Dumplings! I ate a whole bowl of the juice. After lunch we did a little shopping and I bought a few Christmas presents.

After we got back, Blaine and I went home. We did dinner at Olive Garden. I love their Zuppa Toscana! We did a little drive by shopping at Target and headed home.

While at Olive Garden, we ran into my friend Debbie and I gave her one of my $4 off coupons for Olive Garden! I hate to see good coupons expire!

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere. Mae West

Girl's Night Out. I have two special friends. Kissy, Sara, and I are starting our seventh year of working together. We started out, just the three us, going out and doing fun, girly type stuff. We try to go out once a month. It's gotten harder as we've gotten married. But we try!

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. I enjoyed our trip to New Orleans this summer so much, I want to make it a yearly event!

Tonight we went and ate at Molly's La Casita! I was the DD. I had so much fun just hanging out and being with my friends!

We meant to have the waitress take a group picture, but we didn't manage it. We were having too much fun!

Today at Kelly's Korner she's hosting a Show us Your Life - Online Shopping Linky.

I'd like to share a few of my favorite stores and tips for online shopping.

I love Amazon, Lane Bryant, Hotwire, and Expedia.

Before I purchase anything online I check with http://www.retailmenot.com/
This is the place to find discount codes for many different websites! Check here before you check out!

I check Hotwire and Expedia before I do most of our travel plans. I check for the best days, times, places to stay, and airlines to use.

Being well-informed is one one of the best ways to save money!

BUT, the old adage, you get what you pay for is sometimes true. Use Trip Advisor to check out hotels, motels, and resorts! You won't regret it! I also use Fare Compare it helps with airfares and airlines too!

Where do you shop and how do you save money?

"What's another word for thesaurus?" - Steven Wright

Yesterday was picture day at school. I have had my picture made at "school picture day" for as long as I can remember without missing a year!

My mom took me when I was too young to remember. Then k-12, college, and of course every year that I've been teaching school (18 years).

I remember planning my outfits the night before, sleeping on pink sponge rollers, or the black prickly rollers, waking up early and taking extra time on my hair and make-up. School pictures always produced excitement and a little dread!

It's great that I'm in charge of school pictures at my school. The photographers are awesome! I get to see my picture and decide if I like it, right then! I get to play "photo shoot" all morning! Blaine and I get a photo taken together and this year I had my picture made with Kissy and Sara! What a hoot!

I was looking through some of my old yearbooks, getting a little nostalgic,  and decided to share a few pictures.

# "Diaper backward spells repaid. Think about it." ~ Marshall McLuhan

Having a baby of my own just wasn't part of the plan for me. I'm blessed to have a niece, step-niece, five nephews, two great-nieces, three great-nephews, three step great-nephews, and a great-??? on the way.

My life has an abundance of babies and small to large children. I have been around them for as long as I can remember. Jeremy was born when I was 10. We were with each other almost constantly until he was 8, when I went to college. I'm happy to say he survived being placed in the dryer, having his shoulder dislocated, and I'm sure several other traumatic experiences.

I've had my share of changing diapers, being spit up on, inconsolable crying, and being peed on.

But nothing beats holding a sweet baby.
How sweet is this baby? I work with his Grandma. I was his mom's elementary and junior high librarian. They live in my neighborhood. I walked over to their house today and did a little spoiling! I walked him, fed him, and burped him! He is the sweetest baby!

I'd have brought him home with me, but Blaine might have freaked :)

nothing made me sick, nothing! I took little bites, I chewed my food well!

Love comes in all shapes and sizes.

This is a picture of love. I had been blogging about wanting meatloaf that tasted like my momma's! My sister was awesome and made me some! It was so good and Elmer behaved all weekend!!!
She's amazing. Growing up, we might not have liked each other as much as we could have. But I couldn't ask for a better sister. I know she's on my side and will love me no matter what. I want to be as good a sister to her. She's a wonderful example of how to love.

This weekend I was also blessed to get to be around some of my favorite men. I got to see my dad. He's a great dad! He gave me a puzzle that is great! I love it and I love him!
I also got to hang out with the Peanut. He's my oldest great-nephew. He's also quite the cut-up. I wonder where he gets that?
We also went to see my brother and his wife in Conway. While we were there, my nephew, Derek, and his wife, Kayla,  brought over their bundle of joy! This little monkey is my youngest great-nephew, so far!
Doesn't he look excited to be having his picture made with me? Hopefully, next time, I'll get to see my niece and her family.

Here's a picture of me with my most favorite man of all time!

Now about Elmer!

I weighed 268 Saturday morning! That was after several days of Elmer being uncooperative! I'm happy to say that I didn't get sick any this weekend! I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes, soapapilla cheesecake, pizza, soup, and who knows what else.

I was super careful. Small bites, lots of chewing, and making sure to stop when I get "the feeling!"

I do believe I'm heading towards getting completely off of my blood pressure meds! I'll keep you posted.

Keep showing the bloggy love, it really does make a difference!

~Robin

p.s. here are the answer to a few questions....

Onions do not make me "fart like a mule", but refried beans....

I don't drink enough water, but I'm working on it :) Even too much liquid can make me sick. I have to do all my drinking before I eat anything solid. If I forget and have a drink, it isn't pretty. I almost always have something to drink on my desk.

It's not so much the meat that was making me sick, it was the texture and how it's presented. So, I'm guessing that, ground turkey would affect me like hamburger.

Any other questions? I'm happy to answer them :)

“There's only one me, and I'm stuck with him.” Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Oh Elmer. Have I made you mad? Are you just having a bad day? I've tried giving you what you like; plain gravy (no chunks), chicken noodle juice, vegetables cooked to death, a little ice cream (seriously, a little!), grape juice, milk, and Pringles.

The only thing that didn't anger my Greek god of Glue were the Pringles and the chicken noodle soup juice.

What's wrong with you? You've been such a good boy since your last fill. Maybe today was just an "off" day.

Please act right tomorrow. I'm going to visit my sister and she's making me my momma's meatloaf. I'd like to be able to have a few bites without praying to the porcelain god!

I don't regret having a relationship with you Elmer. I'm just not liking you much today.

“I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants.” A. Whitney Brown

I see a future filled with refried beans, grilled onions, boiled squash and zucchini. Small pieces of tender meat may occasionally make a guest appearance.

I had two pieces of tender steak at lunch. Tonight I tried to eat a slice of bacon and some extremely thin sliced turkey. Oh no no no! The steak did fine. The bacon and turkey not so much. Back to the veggies!

I also believe my band has reached a tightness that it's time to switch to liquid Benadryl. My other meds are smaller and I'm not having any problems with them, yet. The Benadryl capsules get stuck almost every time.

I also did a little experiment with my scales. I made Blaine get on the digital scales and then on the old-fashioned scales. There was a 10 pound difference! The old-fashions scales were what he's always weighed. The crazy scales 10 pounds more!!

Now the old fashioned scales are the ones I got on February 23, 2011 and they said I weighed 318. Tonight those scales say I weigh 258. I'm liking these scales. The crazy scales say I weigh 270 and on February 23, 2011 they weighed me at 307. Anybody want to explain this to me?

So, if I'm to believe these old-fashioned scales I've lost 76 pounds. The crazy scales say I've lost 64 pounds. Either way, I'm pretty happy :)

But when it is all said and done, I'm going with whatever that doctor's scales read when I go back in October.

Bacon? BACON!!!!

I want your opinion.

When somebody does you wrong, such as fabricate a story or flat out lie, be mean, try to get you in trouble, cause you grief, and just generally be bad, what does forgiveness entail? Just because I begin speaking to them again, does that mean I want to go back to our previous level of friendship?

I don't think so. I still believe I should receive an apology. I know I'll never get one, but it should still be given.

I've done some bad things in my life. For which most of them I have apologized, or I've just left those people alone.

I just don't get how they think, if they act like nothing ever happened, it will all go back to the way it was.

It won't. I will never trust you again. You lied to other people about me. That's worse than just lying to me, you lied about me.

Am I wrong. Should I just go back to the way things were? Should I invite this person back into my home like nothing happened?

On to a happier topic. I'm contemplating becoming a vegetarian. Not because I'm joining PETA or because I'm feeling guilty for eating food that used to have a face. It's because meat appears to be the main culprit of getting "stuck."

I don't do chicken anymore. I'm giving up hamburger (after last night who could blame me?) Sausage is iffy. Ham in tiny amounts. Steak is still okay in small chunks and very tender!

Then there's bacon. I LOVE BACON. If I can't eat it, I will just smell it and lick the outside. I believe that everything is better with bacon, seriously! I'll never give up bacon. They have a bacon liquor, I might like that too! Do you think they pour maple syrup around the lip of the glass?

Tonight we ate dinner at Margarita's. I asked them to grill me a plate of fajita onions. No chicken, tomatoes, bell peppers, or tortillas. Just the onions. The waiter was a little concerned, but he brought me a big ol' plate of onions. They were AWESOME! I did not eat the entire plate, but I did eat quite a few. I also had refried beans, tortilla chips, and white cheese dip. I was happy and didn't get stuck once!
Don't they look yummy???? I've also developed a major love for squash and zucchini, of course with some onions and a little bacon thrown in the pot! BTW I use bacon bits, much less fat that sliced bacon! I'm also groovin' on refried beans.

Poor Blaine. He'll have to deal with me later :)

I'm saying my prayers to Elmer, the Greek god of glue.

Today, Elmer is being bad. Maybe he doesn't like his name. I don't know.

Today was the worst episode I've ever had. I didn't feel 'stuck.' I was eating Cheeseburger Macaroni Hamburger Helper. I had a cup of food and all of the sudden it felt like I had a piece of meat hung. It set off my gag reflex and I threw up the worst I ever have! My face was beet red and burning.

As of right now, NO MORE HAMBURGER MEAT! What will I do? Do you know how many of my recipes call for hamburger? Oh well, I'll figure something out.

It's not worth what I went through to eat hamburger :(

If a Little is Good, Then More Has to Be Better

For most of my life when I've eaten something good, I've always wanted more.

Now with Elmer (My lap-band's name, thanks Nina!) I'm learning to savor the bites and not ask for more.  Sometimes more is NOT better. More is part of what got me into my current weight situation.

I'm still learning to put small portions on my plate. I'm still learning that cleaning my plate is not what is best for me. I can't blame these mindsets on anyone but myself. I didn't have a mother that forced me to clean my plate. She tried to encourage me to limit myself. I was hard-headed (still am) and seriously in love with food (still am!)

My love affair is waning. Now food isn't what causes a feel good in my tummy and brain. Food was my cure all for everything. I'd have a headache and think, "If I have some chocolate, I'll feel better." A tummy ache? Crackers make me feel better. Can't sleep? How about a sandwich?

No more. Now eating and/or drinking before bedtime causes reflux. Reflux causes me to have hoarseness and stay awake. One more bite of something tasty, that causes me to throw up. Drinking too fast, that causes me to throw up. I'm learning that when I get a certain feeling I have to stop what ever I'm consuming immediately, no matter how good it tastes.

I have to eat slowly. Sometimes I read my Kindle while I'm eating. It helps me to slow down and chew more. I put less food on my plate. I don't go back for thirds and fourths. I avoid food that's stringy and hard for me to chew.

This band is not a quick fix. It's not a magic spell that fixes everything. What has to be fixed is my brain and how I think about food and eating. Buffets are not for me. It's not worth the cost for me to get anything "all you can eat."

There are many people who've opted to have weight loss surgery (WLS.) Don't judge them as taking the easy way out. It's not as easy as you think. It would have been easier for me to not have the band and continued to put on weight until I died. I wouldn't mind dying healthy, fat, and happy. It was the unhealthy, fat, and unhappy that was bothering me.

This is a serving size. Yes, it's a brownie with a dab of Reddi-Whip. But check out the portion size! Before surgery my brownie would have been FOUR TIMES this! and had ice cream instead! So don't judge my brownie, praise my portion!

Peace, Bloggy Love, & Happiness!

I'd Rather Wash Dishes!!!

Some people stopped by our house today and asked if we'd like them to weed our flower bed and trim our bushes. I took them up on their offer. I can respect the fact that people go around looking for work, not just a handout. Plus, I had no desire to get in the dirt and pull those weeds. I think I'd rather do dishes!!!

I know times are tough for lots of folks. You have to get creative sometimes to drum up extra income.

Do you have any suggestions for how to make some extra cash?

I'm still looking for suggestions for a name for my band. Elmer, Eloise, Fred, Roberta.... What do you think?

Two Test Tickles!!!

I love a good joke. I enjoy hearing them. But mostly I love to tell them. I wish I were better at telling a joke. Poor Blaine, he's heard my favorites over and over again.

Here's the one he hears the most:

What's the difference between a Baptist and a Methodist?

The Methodist will say "Hi" to you at the liquor store! bah-dum-bum

I've been working on a book order at school. I'm trying to be a good steward of tax payer dollars and order appropriate, yet appealing books for our students. Easier typed than done. Any suggestions for new/good young adult fiction?

Tonight we played trivia with our friends Shirey and Todd.
We were in first place until the very end. We have NEVER gotten the final question correct. So, we haven't been wagering any points. Tonight Blaine got it right! We didn't wager any points and wound up in third place. We were both happy and bummed. Oh well, we had a blast.

My lap-band did not have a blast (I need to give it a name, any suggestions? I'm thinking Elmer.) I had a Virgin Mary and was eating an olive out of it (I thought they came with celery?) and all the sudden I had to RUN to the bathroom!

This is the first time it's hit me that fast and violent in public. I was talking and laughing and wasn't paying attention to my chewing and blech! Other than that, I've been doing fairly well. My portion size is way down and I'm still liking soup!

I'm Still Having One of Those Days

Ever do something really stupid? Do you keep doing it over and over again?

I constantly lose/leave things. It isn't that I don't care about them. It usually involves me getting distracted and just walking off. By the the time I think about them again, they are long gone.

For the longest I did not carry a purse. I was awful at just getting up and walking away from it. When I got married I decided it was time to be a "big" girl and start carrying one.

I do pretty good with it, just don't ask me where my keys are. I will have to empty the entire purse just to find them.

Every morning, before leaving for school, Blaine asks "do you have your phone? do you have your watch? do you have your jewelry? do you have your brain?" (Not really the brain, but I'm sure he's thinking it!)

This stuff gets me down. I want the AMA to come up with a diagnosis and treatment for what is wrong with me. We'll call it Forgotititis. Got it? The name of the drug will be Wheresitall! Once a morning, if you can find the bottle and remember to take it before you get distracted!

I would try and list all the things I've left behind, but it's too long and embarrassing! But here's a few:
Camera (left on a chair) with all our vacation pictures from San Francisco
Baby Vera wristlet with all my credit cards and vital info (Praise God it was returned)
Ray Bans that Blaine gave me when we were dating (no idea where I left them)
Too many books to name
Coupon Binder (left at Kroger) never seen again

It isn't that I just leave piddling stuff around. It's expensive things that aren't easily or can't be replaced.

Because of my affliction, when I find things I try to return them. I once found a pair of Chanel sunglasses on a parking lot. We waited for almost an hour to see if anybody returned looking for them. I'm sure that nice lady is missing her sunglasses and if I ever meet her, I'll give them to her.

I also try to do nice things to random people. I believe that what goes around comes around and I need all the help I can get. I share my coupons in both grocery stores and restaurants. It does feel good to share.

So the next time you find something, do the right thing :) It could be a person suffering from Forgotititis.

Haikus are easy. But sometimes they don't make sense. Refrigerator.

I know it's been a while since I posted my side by side pics. But it's been a while since I lost any weight.

This last fill seems to have been much more effective than my last one. I'm actually seeing the scales move on a daily basis! I even saw 266, but that was on the crazy scales. It's been so long (5 years) since I was in the 260s that it made me a little giddy! I know it will be some more time until I'm seeing the 260s on a regular basis, but I'm patient!

Now that I've started adding a few solids back to my diet I'm feeling better! This morning the scales said 272. That's down 55 pounds from what I weighed in January!

Nothing big planned for this Labor Day weekend. I'm just excited to get to sleep late three days in a row!

Show some bloggy love!
