I don't like....

Same shirt, new attitude :)

I'd like to thank Jeorgie. He's the man. He put a new headlight in my car, Hunny Girl. She's so happy that she's not cock-eyed anymore!

Tonight was taco night. Blaine enjoyed it. I couldn't eat the lettuce or the tomatoes. I had some meat, a little cheese, sour cream, and salsa with tortilla strips.

I've been pretty sad lately. My uncle Sammy passed away this past Friday. He was the uncle that was always around. I slept over at his house anytime my mom would let me.

His daughters are just a little older and a little younger. I remember standing on my grandparent's storm cellar (Momma wouldn't let me go further) and yelling for them to come out and play.

When we first moved to Greers Ferry I was in the first grade. There were only two first grade classes and my cousin Aimee was in the same grade. When they didn't put me in her class, I cried like the world was ending. I got moved. :-)

My Uncle Sammy was one of those funny guys. He always had a smile and funny story to tell. I don't remember him ever being mean to me or getting on to me (I'm sure he did, I just don't remember it!)

Even when he felt bad, he was still smiling every time I saw him. That says a great deal about a person's character. Even though you feel like crap, you still wanna smile, even if it's just until I leave.

This is the third uncle I've had pass away in the past seven months. I know this is just part of getting older. I still don't like it.

It always tickles me when folks say, "I don't like going to funerals" "I don't like going to hospitals" "I don't like going to nursing homes" "I don't like feeling sad" "I don't like getting shots" "I don't like a poke in the eye"

My response is always, "Who does?" I hesitate to say Nobody likes any of those things, but I feel that most people don't. It's just normal to dislike something that makes us face our own mortality or causes us pain.

I don't like to think about dying. I don't like to think about being alone. I don't like the thought of being forced to ask for help when I get older. But who does?

Some people don't like the idea of people looking at them after they die. They don't want a service or any of the hoopla. Me, I want it all.

I'd be happy if it were a big ol' party and folks just told every embarrassing story they could remember about me (they are plenty!)

I really don't want the old funeral songs sung. Beulah land, Precious Memories, etc.
But since I'll be dead, I don't get to pick.

Just miss me when I'm gone.

To me old age is always fifteen years older than I am

Gosh my face is smaller, but dang I look 10 years older :( Fat sure does fill in all those wrinkles!

I believe this is the longest I've gone with out blogging since I began doing this seriously in January 2011.

It isn't that I haven't wanted to blog.

My computer is upstairs in the Bat Cave. My knitting is downstairs in the living room. The Big Bang episodes I've been DVRing are on the DVR in the living room. Blogging on the iPad is frustrating.

I just haven't felt motivated to go upstairs. But here I am tonight :)

Since my lost Blog, Elmer my lap-band has turned ONE. I went for a fill yesterday and I've officially lost 66 pounds. I've lost 4 pounds since my last visit. That's not bad considering I haven't had a fill since, I think, September or October. Also, I survived my TWO major eating holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I did get a fill yesterday. My 14cc band now has 9.5ccs in it.  My last few fills have been .5 or .25 we're hoping to hit my sweet spot soon!

Blaine was a sweetie pie and went with me to my appointment. I've been feeling nauseous after my last few fills. Driving over an hour is no fun when you don't feel good.

We've still been playing trivia and not doing too bad. We've managed to qualify for the semi-finals for the Memphis Trivia League. Don't be too impressed. Every location sends their top FIVE teams for each night they have trivia. (We actually qualify for two different nights!) So, there will be tons of teams!

This cold weather has me thinking about Spring Break and a Summer trip. We're discussing Destin for Spring Break and maybe another Vegas/Hawaii trip this summer. We've also thought about a trip to the east coast to Charleston, South Caroline.

We did go to Paragould Saturday. I have newly colored hair and eyebrows! Next time I'm taking Charlotte K with me!

Since my last post I've also seen the movie Haywire. I did NOT enjoy it. No particular reason why. It just never grabbed my attention and sucked me in.

I'm sure I've forgotten something important. I'll be on here more often. Promise!

What's kicken Chicken?

Static Electricity, shocking!
One more reason my hair stays in a pony tail. I have to use a dryer sheet to get it under control! Going to see my friend Jen this weekend for a cut, color, and wax! She's awesome, look up Studio Bliss in Paragould for all your hair care needs!
Realizing it's been a year since I left home to prepare for my lap-band surgery.
I don't have a single regret.
My friend Stacy wearing her new hat I made for her.

I'm loving these pickles. They aren't quite as good as Mickles Pickles, they need to have thinner slices. But still pretty yummy, especially chopped up in some chicken salad!
Jami just had a birthday and I made her this groovy scarf for her birthday. Isn't she lucky?!?!?

I realize I haven't been blogging much. I really have been obsessed with making the hats and scarves. I bought some looms for making different sizes of scarves. I've also been working the Hobby Lobby coupons, with a little help from Blaine.

Did you know that Michael's takes competitor's coupons?

We bought a chicken.
I injected it with Tony Cachere's Garlic & Herb Marinade.
I baked it in the oven.
Neither one of us liked it.
I was determined to not waste an entire chicken.
I pulled the meat off the bones.
Fried it in the pan to give it a little color.
Chopped the chicken and split it into two separate bowls.
I made my bowl.
Blaine mixed his.
I don't like mayo. I'm a Miracle Whip kinda woman.
Blaine likes Hellman's
I love mine.
He loves his.
The chicken didn't die in vain!
The end.

Thanks to my mother-in-law for cooking us dinner tonight and sending us home with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Roast, gravy, carrots, greens, green beans, mashed potatoes, and cucumber salad!!!!! How awesome is she?????

Getting in his pants

January 2011
January 2012
This morning I weighed in at 263 pounds. That's a loss of 71 pounds! This is the smallest I've been since the 1990's

My official goal is 170. My real goal is to get under 200 and weigh less than Blaine. I also want to be able to wear his jeans. I tried a pair on this weekend. I could get them up to my hips, but there was no way the button and the hole were making contact!

I'm still knitting. I've done 5 hats, 1 scarf, and I have 2 scarves in the works! I need to make another run to Hobby Lobby. The new scarf maker takes more yarn than I anticipated :(

friggatriskaidekaphobia - God Bless You!

Picture of me today and a year ago!

I haven't been blogging as much as normal. It's due to my new knitting obsession! I've made FIVE hats and a scarf and I have another scarf in the works. Today we used 40% off coupons at Hobby Lobby and bought more yarn and a new loom for making scarves!

Not a lot has been happening this week. It has gotten pretty cold. My constant need to stuff food in my mouth has lessened. I've dropped a couple of pounds. Not bad.

Today is Friday the 13th. I don't usually think anything about it. I'm not much for superstitions. Ughhh, today was not my day!

We decided to go eat at Bahama Breeze for dinner. Aunt Olivia had given us a coupon for $10 off :) Everything was great until we headed for the car to leave....

The car to the right > is ours.
Blaine had to crawl through the passenger side to get in the driver's seat to back up the car. He was not amused. Neither was I.
What you can't see is that the car to the left of the offending vehicle is about EIGHT feet away from this SUV. They had no need to park this close to our little Hyundai.

I wish I'd a brochure for driving school. I'd have left it and a "nice" little note.

This wasn't the end of my wonderful day. The hits just kept on rolling.

After a nice little visit to Hobby Lobby, with no drama, we headed to the cheap movies. We have a theater that shows movies for $2.50. Blaine and I decided to see separate movies. I went to see "In Time" with Justin Timberlake and he went to see "Immortals" with Mickey Rourke.

I'd like to preface this story with this: I am all about not infringing on somebody's moving going experience. I've blogged about having a movie goers bill of rights. I don't talk on my phone, I don't constantly yammer to Blaine, I try not to kick the seat in front of me, and I try to be nice.

Before the movie started I was reading a book on my iPad. It's backlit, so it puts off a lot of light. I was on a row all by myself, nobody was around me when I began to read. I read through the commercials and when the previews started I was about to close the iPad WHEN....

this old man at the end of my aisle leans over and says nastily "you need to turn that off." He's at least 5-6 seats away from me, so he's saying it really loud. I was not happy.

#1 the movie has NOT BEGUN
#2 BE NICE! Honey not vinegar, don't you listen to your momma?
#3 I had this out when you chose your seat, pick a new seat!!!

Then he says something to the manager, the movie still hasn't started, the manager comes over to me and says something. I told him when the movie started I would turn it off.

The old man started mouthing again and I told him he could complain when the movie started but until then to calm down. His wife (or aide from the nursing home) decided to chime in and I told her to be quiet. I had had enough.

After a day of watching the In School Suspension class and trying to double check a list using names that weren't alphabetized, I really didn't need to deal with a bully who apparently had never had anybody stand up to him and his whiny ways. I bet he was a tattletale in school too.

After a stop at McDonald's, to use their facilities, we headed home. We went by Kroger for some Banana Split Blue Bell ice cream. As I was heading into the store I ran into a couple of girls from our cross town rivals (Marion Patriots) and asked them about the basketball game.

They were SUPER SWEET and told me that it was an awesome game and that the West Memphis Blue Devils had won after an overtime. Told me congratulations and just made my day. They made my day, not because West Memphis won the game, but because of their attitudes and genuine congratulations.

What has happened to people being nice. We have had more run-ins with rude people with bad attitudes in Memphis lately. I don't like it. The South is known for its hospitality and kindness, if you can't handle it, leave, please!

~Robin

p.s. I'm going on a vacation to Flagstaff, AZ this summer! I checked today and the average daily high in July is 82!!!! I may have to take a jacket! Sounds amazing!

Warm Kitty, Soft Kitty

Do you watch The Big Bang Theory?
We do. Sheldon has to be our favorite character.

When he's sick he likes to have "Soft Kitty" sung to him.
Sometimes when he's homesick too. (Ignore the captions, unless you speak the language and then, by all means, read away!)

Saturday I was possessed by Mario Andretti, or was it the Princess from Mario Kart? It seemed like every lame driver was getting in my way. Not just driving slow, completely stopping in the road!!!

The longer I drove, the more irritated I got.

Suddenly, Blaine reaches over and starts rubbing my arm and singing "Soft Kitty!"

I burst out laughing and immediately calmed down!

How can I not love a man that sings "Soft Kitty?"

This weekend was fast and furious.

Friday night we ate at Picadilly, went to visit Aunt Olivia in the hospital (she's home now, thank you God!), stopped at Swanky's for a snack (had a foursquare coupon), and finished my first scarf!

Saturday we ate at Denny's, shopping at TJMaxx and some other stores, soup at Panera Bread, stopped at Gigi's for a couple of cupcakes (had a coupon!), went to Hobby Lobby (I bought a bunch of yarn!), watched Money Ball (I liked it and I ate nachos with cheese), and more soup at McAlister's Deli.
I know I'm demented. I thought this was advertising Chocolate Lovin' SPERMcake :-O

Sunday I had Malt-O-Meal for breakfast, then we ate at TGIFriday's, went to Sam's Club, headed to Aunt Olivia's to work on her computer (she gave me TONS of yarn!!!), cooked Chicken Pot Pie for Blaine and Stacy, played trivia, and finished hat #2 & #3.
Newborn hat for Eunice!

Do you see how often food is listed? I'm staying hungry ALL THE TIME!!!!

I don't know if it's one thing, or if it's several things.

Here's some of what I think may be causing it:
*It's time to start my period
*No longer on birth control pills
*My band needs tightened
*Not making good food decisions.
*Started exercising

All this eating is playing havoc with my weight. I've gained a few pounds. I weighed 268 this morning.

On a more positive note I have gone a week with drinking only a few drinks of a soda. I did have a couple of sweet teas and everything else was water, milk, or juice. I'm doing better! Still room for improvement.

Seriously folks, I've only had one color request for your Christmas hat. Speak now, or get what you're given! I finished hat #3 today!

Love ya!

~Robin
p.s. for those of you who didn't get an iPad for Christmas, here's the generic version:
The Generic iPad 2 will have wings!

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried. - Susan Ohanian

See my hand? That's hiding a gi-normous "blemish!" Oh my heavens, it needs its own zip code. If it hangs around much longer I should be able to claim it as a dependent on my taxes!!!

Here are the pictures of my two most recent piggy banks:
This is for my friend Lisa and her baby girl. I will call her Eunice until they reveal her name! Lisa is a die-hard LSU fan. Jesus still loves her. Let's all have a moment of prayer for Lisa.

This is for our not-yet born, new great-nephew, Eli. I hope he likes football!
Also, I gave away my first hat attempt. Isn't he a cutie patootie?
He is ROCKIN' the knit cap! Caleb is a man of style. I'm sure this hat will NEVER be on his head again :-D
Things I'm proud of today:

I only drank water, milk, and juice. I was tempted with Mt. Dew and was strong!
I loaded and ran the dishwasher.
We walked to Blaine's parents, stayed and visited, and walked back home. Blaine's mom sent us home with some yummy Mexican cornbread. OMG it was delicious!
I cooked dinner, lasagna (that I made and had frozen), vegetables in a bag, and Texas toast.

I wish I had the guts to be honest.

I'm no good at telling people what I really feel. Especially when I feel I'm being taken advantage of in a bad way.

I want to stay friends with these people. I'm afraid, if I tell them what I'm thinking, that they will get mad.

I'm not good at dealing with mad folks. I want everybody to be happy.

I can't go into details here. I know these people read my blog :)

I know, I know, if they aren't treating me nice I don't need to be friends with them.

I'm kinda wondering if they realize what they are doing is not very nice.

I'm not a big believer in Astrology, but....

I'm a LIBRA. My sign is the scales. I like my world in balance. I want everybody happy. I want everything to be fair. Not the corndog and cotton candy kind of fair either!

Normally, I am not the confrontational type. I have had my moments. Boy, have I had some moments!

Thanks for letting me ramble and rant :)

“Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.” - Dr. Haim Ginott

I have pictures from today, I just haven't loaded them. Tomorrow!

Things I'm proud of today:

Drank milk and water only.
Cooked steak, opened a can of green beans, and microwaved some mashed potatoes for dinner.
Loaded and ran the dishwasher.
Stayed calm when the baby spit up :D
We placed second at trivia.
Going to be asleep before midnight!

I did buy lunch from the cafeteria today! It was vegetable soup with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I still have the leftovers from last night, so they should be okay tomorrow.

I called and rescheduled my lap-band appointment today. I had to move it back a week.

“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” - Benjamin Franklin

Today was our first day back with the students.

It always makes me happy to see the kids wanting to be in the library!

I love this dip!
 1- 3lb. brick of Velveeta
1 can Chili no beans
2 cans original rotel
Put in the crock pot and heat and mix until nice and hot!
I love this stuff!!!

Blaine gave me these "knitting for dummies" looms.
Tonight I attempted my first hat.
True love is when he wears your awful hat, lets you take pictures, and post them on your blog!

I think I need to use much thicker yarn. Although, I believe you could thread a pony tail through the holes in this hat!

The other night at our New Year's Eve party, I had a fancy bottle of wine. (I think I paid $11 for it at Sam's!) Shirey and I were trying to get the cork out and managed to break both the corkscrew and the cork!

Yesterday I finally made it to Dollar Tree where I purchased a new high dollar corkscrew! After much grunting and twisting I finally got out what was left of the cork.

After doing a taste test, I had to figure out a way to cover it, since the cork was shot. This is a ziploc bag and a Pampered Chef tie. Hope it works!

According to my friend Lisa, I have an obsession for containers with lids. Last night I organized my containers with lids and I'm pleased with how it turned out!

Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law for cooking us dinner and sending us home with leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

Things I'm proud of today:

I only drank water and milk.
We took our lunch to school.
I unloaded and loaded the dishwasher as soon as I got home from school.
I have lunch ready for school tomorrow.
I knitted a hat, even though it's kinda pitiful.

“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” - Donald Kendall

Going back to work after a long break is tough.

I'm bad during vacation time.
I go to bed late.
I wake up late.
I take naps.

None of the things I get to do when school is in session.

This year, we had a day of teacher training our first day back. Thank goodness!

I might have had an schizhoid embolism if the students had been there today.
Due to:
Lack of sleep.
Lack of caffeine.
Too many people saying stuff didn't work and I didn't know how to fix it.
I'm definitely going to bed early tonight!

Thank goodness for Bruce! He's our Tech Guru extroidinairre! He's saved me more times than I can count. He needs a raise!!!

We have 96 more mornings to get up and go to work until Summer Vacation! I love my job. I love Summer Vacation too!

When the day was done it wasn't so bad and I didn't have a bald spot (from pulling out my hair!)

Sweet Blaine took me to Central BBQ for some Banana Pudding! Then we headed to Gus's for some Spicy Fried Chicken.

When we got home we headed for a walk around the block. We stopped for a visit with Blaine's parents and then headed back home. It's gotten chilly and I wore TWO hats!

I've been slacking about taking my meds and I feel like I've put about 5 pounds on in the past few days. I need to get back on a schedule about taking them regularly.  That "pee pill" is a life saver!

Things I'm proud of today:
Brought our lunch from home
Unloaded and loaded the dishwasher as soon as we got home.
Organized the plastic containers cabinet
Walked to Blaine's parents and back
Started planning our Spring Break '12 trip!

It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine.) - R.E.M.

I don't really believe the world will end in 2012. I do believe we should live our lives as if every day is our last.

My mother-in-law invited us over for lunch. All the traditional "good luck" foods! Black-eyed peas, greens, hog jowl, and some other stuff, just because it's good!
Char and Larry and Todd and Shirey came over last night. We had a taco bar and played games. We had a great time.
Somehow, I didn't get a picture of Larry on this computer. I'll try and load it from my iPad and see if I can get it on here later!
It's been ten years today since my momma went to be with Jesus.
I miss her.
I miss all the things I didn't get to share with her.
I miss the hugs and the stories.
I miss being able to call her and ask her how to cook something.
I miss how she remembered things.
I wish she could have known Blaine and all the others that have joined our family since she left.

Happy New Year!

~Robin

My resolutions:

Drink more water
Exercise more
